Site Operations Leader, OMHS
As a Site Operations Leader within the OneMHS Installation & Deployment (I&D) team, you will serve as the central engineering coordinator for large-scale material handling equipment (MHE) installation projects in greenfield and brownfield Amazon fulfillment environments. You will work directly alongside installation teams on active construction sites, owning the project schedule and coordinating all on-site project teams, sub-team leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver complex MHE systems from equipment receipt through commissioning.
You will independently manage the project schedule, procurement workflows, equipment logistics, and budget administration for MHE installation projects ranging from $50M to $100M+ in scope. Working directly with mechanical installation leads, electrical installation leads, controls engineers, commissioning teams, and external MHE vendors, you will be the single-threaded owner for site-level coordination — ensuring all teams are aligned, resources are sequenced correctly, and the project stays on track.
This is a field-based engineering role embedded within active construction sites. You will operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where you proactively identify schedule risks, resolve inter-team dependencies, and drive continuous improvement in how Amazon deploys MHE systems at scale.
Key job responsibilities
Own and maintain the project schedule for MHE installation across assigned greenfield and brownfield sites
Coordinate daily activities across all on-site project teams including mechanical installation, electrical installation, controls integration, and commissioning
Serve as the central point of coordination between sub-team leaders, ensuring work sequences are properly phased and resource conflicts are resolved
Lead daily site coordination meetings to align all installation teams on priorities, constraints, and upcoming milestones
Track critical path items across all sub-teams and proactively identify and mitigate schedule risks
Manage inter-team dependencies — ensuring predecessor work is complete before successor teams mobilize
Coordinate site access timelines, aligning MHE first access dates with installation and commissioning schedules
Create and maintain integrated project schedules coordinating engineering, supply chain, construction, and commissioning timelines
Monitor and report KPIs for schedule adherence, budget performance, and installation progress
Coordinate MHE equipment storage, sequencing, and shipment logistics between manufacturers, third-party storage facilities, and installation sites
Manage equipment inventory tracking across active construction sites to ensure installation teams have materials staged and ready
Engineer receiving and staging plans for MHE components including unloading coordination, inventory verification, and sequenced material placement
Develop and maintain receiving instructions and standard operating procedures for installation crews
Deploy and manage construction monitoring systems for progress documentation
Coordinate asset tracking technology deployments to maintain visibility of MHE components through the installation lifecycle
Ensure compliance with Amazon safety standards and construction site safety requirements during all installation activities
Own procurement workflows including purchase order creation, change order controls, and invoice management via Coupa
Manage project budgets, tracking spend against approved allocations
Develop and track financial reporting for assigned projects, providing regular budget status updates to leadership
Coordinate with Global Procurement Organization (GPO) on vendor work allocation decisions and procurement strategies
Create financial justification documents for equipment purchases and technology investments
Support development of procurement and logistics strategies for large-scale multi-site deployments
Serve as primary operational point of contact for MHE vendors on assigned sites
Coordinate vendor equipment delivery schedules, milestone tracking, and change request alignment
Lead vendor schedule review meetings and drive resolution of schedule conflicts between vendor and internal installation teams
Manage vendor work allocation processes, ensuring clear scope definitions between self-perform and contracted work
Support cross-vendor coordination for integrated installation projects involving multiple equipment suppliers
Track and manage vendor change requests, ensuring proper documentation and financial alignment
Develop and maintain cross-vendor work instructions for MHE installation activities
Create and manage engineering documentation including receiving instructions, site logistics plans, and installation SOPs
Support development of installation training materials and engineering standards documentation
Contribute to drawing standards and layout reviews for MHE installation projects
Participate in design reviews supporting execution between internal teams and outside vendors
Maintain project documentation in alignment with I&D engineering team standards and best practices
Communicate project schedule status, risks, and team coordination updates to engineering leadership
Participate in Daily Business Reviews (DBRs) providing installation progress updates on safety, job plans, and team readiness
Support Weekly Business Reviews (WBRs) with MHE vendor partners covering risks, schedules, commercials, and capacity
Contribute to Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) with project-level metrics and milestones
Provide technical input to leadership for data-driven decision-making
Produce regular status summaries covering team progress, schedule variance, and resource utilization
Identify and escalate inter-team conflicts, resource constraints, and schedule risks in a timely manner
Support achievement of safety, timeline, cost, and quality metrics across assigned sites
A day in the life
A typical day for a Site Operations Leader begins with the daily site coordination meeting, aligning mechanical, electrical, and controls teams on priorities and resolving any sequencing conflicts. From there, you're walking the active construction site — verifying material staging, checking that equipment deliveries match the schedule, and troubleshooting any gaps holding up installation crews. Mid-day often involves vendor schedule reviews, Coupa procurement actions, and updating the project schedule with progress from each sub-team. You close out by flagging risks in the DBR, coordinating next-day material needs, and ensuring every team has what they need to stay on track.
About the team
OneMHS (One Material Handling Systems) is Amazon's in-house program for designing, procuring, and installing material handling equipment across its fulfillment network. Rather than relying solely on external integrators, OneMHS brings the full lifecycle of MHE deployment under Amazon's direct control — from final engineering and equipment procurement through mechanical and electrical installation, controls integration, and commissioning. The program supports both greenfield builds and brownfield retrofits, deploying conveyor systems, sorters, induction systems, and robotic work cells at scale. OneMHS enables Amazon to deliver faster, more cost-effective installations while maintaining higher quality and safety standards.
