Smart City Solution Architect
Summary Introduction:
We are seeking a visionary and technically strong Smart City Solution Architect to design and guide the implementation of integrated smart city solutions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in smart city platforms, urban technology integration, and architecture design across digital, physical, and service domains. This role requires a balance of deep technical expertise, solution engineering capabilities, and the ability to work with stakeholders to align solutions with urban strategies and business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the architectural design of integrated smart city solutions that span across domains such as mobility, energy, environment, governance, and digital services.
Translate business requirements and urban challenges into scalable, secure, and interoperable technical solutions.
Collaborate with strategy consultants, technical teams, city authorities, and solution providers to ensure end-to-end alignment.
Design high-level and detailed solution architectures including applications, data, integration, and infrastructure components.
Develop solution blueprints, reference architectures, and integration patterns in line with international smart city standards (e.g., ISO 37106, ITU-T Y.4200 series).
Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, platforms, and frameworks for various smart city use cases.
Support procurement activities, RFP responses, and vendor assessments by defining technical requirements and evaluating solutions.
Ensure alignment with cybersecurity, data privacy, and sustainability best practices.
Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to deployment and operation.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, ICT, or related field.
8+ years in ICT architecture or smart solutions design, with at least 3 years focused on smart city programs.
Proven ability to design complex, multi-domain smart city systems and digital platforms.
Experience working with cloud-native, edge, IoT, and data integration technologies.
Proficiency in developing solution architecture, reference models, and architectural governance documents.
Familiarity with EA frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and technology stacks relevant to smart cities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Ability to lead architectural discussions with both business and technical stakeholders.
Bilingual (Arabic and English) is highly desirable.
Certification in TOGAF, AWS/GCP/Azure Architecture, or Smart Cities-related programs.
Experience in urban innovation projects, digital twin platforms, or open urban data standards.
Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, microservices, and interoperability protocols (e.g., FIWARE, NGSI-LD, OASC).
