As a Software Development Engineer within the Next Generation Training Team, you will support the development, integration, and delivery of innovative training solutions for defence customers. Working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the enhancement of existing products while developing new capabilities aligned with future product roadmaps. The role focuses on creating integrated software services and components, improving automation, and enhancing the delivery and supportability of training systems. This is an excellent opportunity to work across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, mission-critical training solutions.

Core duties\:

  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain software applications and training system capabilities across existing and future products.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in line with software engineering best practices and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, QA teams, systems engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
  • Support code reviews, testing, debugging, deployment, and issue resolution to ensure reliable and high-quality software solutions.
  • Contribute to the automation, delivery, and supportability of products, helping to improve development and deployment processes.
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation, support continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to future product roadmap activities.

Essential Skills\:

  • Basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript.
  • Understanding of core software development principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Basic knowledge of database technologies, including SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.

The Training Capability – Falcon Works Team\:

You’ll join a close-knit team of around five software and engineering professionals focused on developing innovative training solutions for defence customers. The team works collaboratively across software development, systems integration, testing, and product delivery, while also engaging with a wider multidisciplinary network of engineers, product specialists, and stakeholders across the business.

This is an environment where you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, contribute ideas, and develop your technical skills while supporting both established products and the creation of new capabilities. The team places a strong emphasis on collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing, providing an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to build their experience across the full software development lifecycle.
