Sourcing Engineer

Job Description:

Overview

The Sourcing Engineer will lead new supplier and product qualification for Rogue's Financial Engineering team, ensuring every new source meets Rogue's cost, quality, and operational standards before transitioning to Procurement for steady-state management. This role spans both domestic and international supplier markets — identifying the best source globally, qualifying it to Rogue's standards, and handing it off ready to run. The Sourcing Engineer will work cross functionally with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Procurement and will report to the Director of Financial Engineering.

This role is onsite at the Rogue campus in Columbus, OH. Remote work is not available. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers across domestic and international markets for assigned commodities including steel, aluminum, hardware, coatings, subassemblies, services, packaging, components, and other categories as the business requires

  • Manage international sourcing considerations including landed cost analysis, import duties and tariff exposure, lead time variability, and logistics complexity for globally sourced components

  • Detailed understanding of the internal manufacturing processes and products

  • Issue and manage RFQs; analyze bids and lead initial negotiations to establish competitive pricing, terms, and contractual foundations

  • Build should-cost models to support data-driven negotiations and validate supplier pricing against market benchmarks

  • Lead sourcing activity for new product introductions from concept through first production run

  • Own end-to-end supplier and product qualification documentation — approved vendor records, negotiated rates, quality history, and capability assessments — and execute a complete, transition-ready handoff to Procurement for ongoing management

  • Collaborate closely with Procurement to align on handoff standards and ensure qualified suppliers integrate smoothly into steady-state purchasing operations

  • Maintain accurate supplier and cost data in Rogue's ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics) throughout the qualification lifecycle

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field from a Tier 1 University; MBA required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supplier development, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to both domestic and international supply bases

  • Demonstrated experience qualifying suppliers for metal fabricated components (steel, aluminum, sheet metal, machined parts) across global markets

  • Familiarity with international sourcing considerations including landed cost modeling, tariff and duty structures, import compliance, and cross-border logistics

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for cost modeling and data analysis; working knowledge of SQL for querying and analyzing large datasets

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems; Microsoft Dynamics preferred.

  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to build and evaluate supplier relationships with a critical, structured approach

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T

  • APICS, CSCP, or CPIM certification a plus
