Specialist - Technology Transfer and Innovation

The Specialist - Technology Transfer and Innovation is responsible for managing the transfer of technology and intellectual property (IP) from research and development (R&D) to commercial applications. This role involves identifying potential IP, evaluating its commercial potential, and facilitating its transfer to industry partners. The specialist will work closely with researchers, legal teams, and industry partners to ensure successful technology transfer and commercialization.

Innovation:

  • Supports the manager with execution of the innovation Lab goals as per Sidra Medicine’s priorities and aligned with the research strategy.
  • Helps build the innovation Lab within Sidra Medicine.
  • Supports the manager to develop policies and procedures for the Innovation Office
  • Supports the manager to set up a system to administer and triage potential projects embedded in the Innovation Lab.
  • Supports the manager designing and implementing the governance structure and operating models for the innovation Lab
  • Develops materials for leadership and Innovation Lab Team to present internally and externally
  • Manages online stakeholder portfolio database, and intake forms and is first responder to the intake forms
  • Supports building and maintaining relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
  • Reports Innovation related KPIs to senior leadership.

Tech Transfer:

  • Acts as the primary IP and technology transfer contact for researchers and innovators, supporting informed decisions on publication timing, disclosure, and protection routes
  • Collaborates with researchers to understand their technology and its potential applications.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential IP generated from R&D activities.
  • Manages the process of Invention Discourse from idea to formal submission
  • Manages Sidra’s IP portfolio on an ongoing basis, including review of invention disclosures, in house assessment of patentability, coordination of protection strategies, and portfolio optimization decisions
  • Works with the manager and director and legal team, to process IP internally according to TODA/TOFA from start to end.
  • Works with legal teams to ensure IP protection and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Conducts market research to assess the commercial potential of IP.
  • Supports development and implementation strategies for the protection and commercialization of IP.
  • Supports negotiation and management of licensing agreements and other technology transfer contracts.
  • Provides hands-on leadership in licensing strategy design, collaboration structuring, and IP ownership models, working closely with Legal and Commercial teams for execution
  • Provides training and support to researchers on IP and technology transfer processes.
  • Monitors and report on the progress of technology transfer activities.
  • Maintains relationship with other organizational Technology Transfer Teams within the health ecosystem
  • Any ad hoc activities related to tech transfer, not mentioned in the key responsibilities and accountabilities.

ESSENTIALPREFERRED
Education

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., science, engineering, business).

Advanced degree (e.g., Master's degree) in a relevant field.
Experience

5+ years of experience in technology transfer, IP management, or related role.

Experience in a research or academic environment.

Exceptions to the experience requirement may be granted for Qatari nationals (internal and external candidates), with a reduction of up to two (2) years. [For a DHP licensable role, the experience requirements mandated by the Department of Healthcare Professions, along with the defined scope of practice, must be strictly followed.]

Minimum 5-year experience in a research or academic environment.
