Job Description:

The Specialist, TRIO/Veterans Upward Bound works directly with the Assistant Director, TRIO/Veterans Upward Bound aiding in the enrollment of the Veterans Upward Bound program provision and documentation for low income, first-generation veterans who are interested in pursuing postsecondary education. This position is grant-funded through August 31, 2027. Continuation of employment beyond August 2027 is contingent upon grant renewal and the availability of grant funds.”

Essential Functions

  • Provide advising for VUB participants, conduct individual needs assessment; provide financial aid advice.

  • Assists in the coordination of intake applications, electronic and paper materials and other related information.

  • Provide support and referral to college and community resources.

  • Provide academic, vocational, career, and financial aid planning and progression monitoring.

  • Provide support services to Veterans including assistance with admission, financial aid and program advising.

  • Collaborate with social service agencies, community organizations and educational programs to identify eligible participants.

  • Gather participant progress data and prepare progress reports.

  • Participate in professional development activities.

  • Monitors and maintains social media presence including but not limited to Facebook, lnstagram, Linkedln, TikTok, Snapchat.

  • Provide TRIO VUB Program services remotely (as necessary).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A working knowledge of computers and computer applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications is required/

  • Evidence of strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with disadvantaged students as well as other students, faculty and staff from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Evidence of the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with multi-cultural populations and awareness of issues affecting women and minorities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree. Field of study related to Business, Education, Social Work, Counseling

  • Previous experience working with veterans.

  • Previous experience working advising in higher education.

  • Previous experience working with disadvantaged and/or underrepresented students on a college campus or in higher education.

  • Experience supervising student staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
