Sr Analyst, Underwriting - Life

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Analyst, Underwriting – Life based in the United States.

This fully remote role sits within a high-performing life underwriting function focused on delivering accurate, timely, and customer-centric risk assessments.
You will evaluate life insurance applications ranging from mild to moderately complex cases, applying both medical and financial underwriting principles.
The role requires strong independent judgment, balancing autonomy with appropriate use of referrals and expert consultation when needed.
You will actively collaborate with internal teams, medical experts, and field partners to ensure sound underwriting decisions and strong service outcomes.
A key part of the role involves applying accelerated underwriting tools and alternative data sources to streamline decision-making while maintaining risk integrity.
You will also contribute to reinsurance coordination and help ensure adherence to established underwriting guidelines and mortality objectives.
This position offers exposure to complex cases, evolving underwriting practices, and meaningful impact on customer protection and business growth.

Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite life insurance applications (medical and financial), ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines, risk standards, and authority limits.
  • Determine evidence requirements, including medical exams, reports, and additional documentation to support insurability decisions.
  • Apply accelerated underwriting frameworks and alternative data sources to make efficient, risk-based decisions.
  • Assess financial underwriting elements such as insurable interest, beneficiary structures, and complex financial arrangements.
  • Coordinate reinsurance activities in alignment with treaties and internal risk strategies.
  • Collaborate with medical directors, senior underwriters, and field partners to resolve complex cases and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and service quality across all underwriting activities.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, economics, risk management, insurance, or a medical-related discipline preferred.
    • Minimum of 2 years of life underwriting experience, ideally with exposure to medical underwriting concepts and processes.
    • Strong understanding of human anatomy, disease processes, and their impact on mortality and morbidity risk.
    • Knowledge of financial underwriting principles, including complex beneficiary structures and insurance-related financial analysis.
    • Familiarity with underwriting systems, manuals, and regulatory frameworks governing life insurance risk selection.
    • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, agents, and external partners.
    • LOMA Level 1 certification (or progress toward ALU/LOMA credentials) is preferred.
