Sr. Director, Federal Marketing
About the Role
Seekr sells into two worlds. The commercial enterprise motion and the federal/defense motion share one brand and one set of proof points, but they do not share the same buyer, buying cycle, vocabulary, or path becoming a Seekr customer. Federal is different enough - in how decisions get made, how procurement works, how trust gets earned, and how long it all takes - that it needs one person who wakes up thinking about nothing else.
That's this role. You own Seekr's federal go-to-market: the narrative, the messaging, the strategy, and the marketing plan that sits directly behind the federal and defense sales team. You are the marketing counterpart to government sales leadership - the person who translates Seekr's platform into the language program offices, contracting officers, agency CISOs, and mission owners actually use, and who builds the air cover that makes the BD motion faster.
What this role is not is a second marketing department. You don't rebuild product marketing, demand gen, PR, or creative for federal - you direct them. Product Marketing gives you the technical substance; you make it land with a federal buyer. Demand Generation runs the engine; you point it at DoD, the IC, and civilian agencies and tune it for a federal cycle. PR earns the media; you own which defense and govtech outlets matter and what the policy-anchored story is. Brand and Creative own the system and the craft; you own how it shows up in front of a federal audience. Your leverage is influence and orchestration, not duplication within a silo. When the federal motion works, it's because you set the strategy and pulled the whole GTM org through it.
This can be filled at the Director or Senior Director level depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The federal narrative and messaging. You own how Seekr is positioned to federal and defense buyers - the core story, the differentiation against incumbents and "we'll build it ourselves," and the proof points that move a program office. You adapt the company's master messaging into federal-ready language without fragmenting the brand.
- The federal marketing strategy and plan. You build the annual and quarterly federal marketing plan, set priorities against the sales team's pursuit list, and own the federal pipeline contribution target. You decide where to spend, where to show up, and what to say first.
- Partnership with federal sales as the core operating relationship. You work hand in glove with government sales leadership - sitting close to the BD motion, understanding the active pursuits, and building the content, campaigns, and references that shorten the deals they're actually working. This is the relationship the role lives or dies on.
- Federal field marketing and events. You partner with Field Marketing to drive Seekr's presence at the trade shows and symposia that matter - AFCEA, Sea-Air-Space, AUSA, the Reagan National Defense Forum, DAFITC, and the rest – collaborating with the field & events function on strategy, selection, and ROI.
- Policy- and mission-anchored content, in partnership with the functions. You identify the moments - new federal AI directives, EO milestones, procurement shifts - that Seekr should have a voice in, and you partner with PMM, content, and PR to produce against them. Capability statements, RFP/RFI marketing support, and the federal proof library are yours to own and keep current.
- Federal partner and channel co-marketing. You own marketing's side of the systems integrator and channel relationships - GDIT, the Carahsoft channel, and key SI and hardware partners - pulling demand through to the partners who can reach agencies direct sales can't.
- Advisory and credibility amplification. You make sure Seekr's federal credibility infrastructure - advisory board voices, clearances, contract wins, awardable status - is visible and working in market, not sitting in a press release nobody read.
Qualifications and Skills
- 12+ years in B2G marketing, with significant time spent marketing to federal, defense, and/or intelligence community buyers. You understand how government actually buys - the cycle, the vehicles, the role of SIs, the procurement friction - and you've built marketing that respects it.
- A track record of owning a segment or a motion, not just a function. You've been the person accountable for an outcome that required pulling other teams through your plan without managing them.
- Fluency in the federal/defense narrative landscape - the trade press that matters, the events that matter, the policy cycle, and the difference between language that earns trust with a program office and language that gets you ignored.
- Demonstrated partnership with a sales or BD organization, ideally a government sales team. You're comfortable in the deal motion and you measure yourself on pipeline and pursuit support, not activity.
- Strong judgment on messaging and positioning in a technical, high-stakes category. You can take complex platform capability and make it credible and clear to a defense buyer without overclaiming.
- The ability to operate as a true partner across a GTM org - influence without authority, orchestration over ownership, and the maturity to direct functions you don't manage.
- Federal sector experience is required, not preferred. Bonus: experience in AI/ML or other dual-use technology, and direct relationships across the defense and govtech ecosystem.
