General Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer with 10+ years of enterprise networking experience to design, implement, and support next-generation network infrastructure across data center, cloud, and hybrid environments.

The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in firewalls, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), application delivery, VXLAN EVPN, and cloud networking, with a strong background in network architecture and infrastructure modernization.

This role requires a combination of senior technical leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with Leadership, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams to develop and execute network strategies that support business growth, security, scalability, and operational excellence.

This individual will be based out of Chattanooga TN (UNUM HQ) and will play a critical role in shaping the organization's network strategy.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering, architecture, and operations.
  • Proven experience designing and supporting large-scale enterprise and data center networks.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex infrastructure projects and network modernization initiatives.

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level experience with enterprise firewall technologies and security architecture.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing ZTNA and Zero Trust networking solutions.
  • Strong expertise in application delivery technologies, including load balancing and traffic management.
  • Deep hands-on experience with VXLAN EVPN, spine-leaf architecture, and modern data center networking.
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols, including BGP, OSPF, and EVPN.
  • Experience designing and supporting AWS and/or Azure cloud networking environments.
  • Strong understanding of network segmentation, resiliency, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures.
  • Experience with network automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and orchestration tools is preferred.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills across network, security, and application layers.

Primary Responsibilities

Network Architecture & Design

  • Design and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure enterprise network architectures across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Lead network transformation initiatives, including data center modernization, cloud adoption, network segmentation, and automation.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and provide recommendations to leadership and architecture teams.
  • Ensure network solutions meet performance, availability, security, and business continuity requirements.

Network Security & Zero Trust

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for enterprise firewall technologies and network security architecture.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) solutions and secure remote access frameworks.
  • Develop network segmentation and micro-segmentation strategies to support Zero Trust initiatives.
  • Partner with Information Security teams to ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Data Center Networking – VXLAN EVPN

  • Design, deploy, and support modern data center network fabrics utilizing VXLAN EVPN architectures.
  • Implement scalable Layer 2 and Layer 3 network virtualization solutions across multi-site environments.
  • Support spine-leaf architectures and network fabric technologies to improve scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex routing, switching, overlay, and underlay network issues.
  • Develop operational standards and best practices for EVPN-based environments.

Application Delivery & Load Balancing

  • Design and support enterprise application delivery platforms, including load balancing, traffic management, SSL offloading, and high availability services.
  • Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of business-critical applications.
  • Collaborate with application teams to architect reliable and scalable application connectivity solutions.
  • Resolve complex application performance and network-related issues.

Cloud Networking

  • Design and implement cloud networking architectures across AWS, Azure, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Implement cloud-native networking services, routing, segmentation, and security controls.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to establish networking standards and governance.
  • Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, Enterprise Architecture, and Infra teams.
  • Present architecture proposals, technical roadmaps, and risk assessments to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translate complex concepts into business-focused outcomes.
  • Participate in architecture review boards and strategic planning discussions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical standards and best practices.

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

    $89,400.00-$183,500.00
