Staff Mechanical Engineer - Atlas

We are looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to bridge the gap between cutting-edge motor innovation and production reality on Atlas, our next-generation humanoid robotic platforms. As a key member of the Motor Development team, you will partner with research leads to transform rapid prototypes and architectural concepts into robust, manufacturable motor assemblies. Your work ensures that our most ambitious motor innovations can be successfully integrated into the Atlas mass-production pipeline without losing their competitive performance edge.

What You’ll Do

  • Design & Refinement: Transition early-stage motor designs into refined, production-ready CAD models and detailed drawings.

  • Lifecycle Stewardship: Lead motor designs through architectural and design review gates, managing BOMs, ECOs, and technical documentation within the PLM system.

  • Supplier Partnership: Collaborate with external suppliers (stators, rotors, magnets) to conduct DFM cycles and ensure quality and performance targets are achieved.

  • Validation & Confidence: Conduct rigorous due diligence and selective physical testing to build confidence in innovative designs before they move to manufacturing.

What You Bring

  • Collaborative Mindset: The ability to partner effectively with hands-on R&D engineers while maintaining the discipline required for successful production release.

  • Systemic Understanding: Experience with electromagnetic assemblies, high-power-density rotating machinery, or complex electromechanical integration.

  • Process Fluency: Strong experience managing complex Bills of Materials and working within change-management (ECO) frameworks.

  • Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving design bottlenecks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Professional experience in electromechanical product design and launch (typically 4+ years).

  • Proficiency in CAD (CATIA/Solidworks) and familiarity with diverse manufacturing processes.

  • 10%-20% international travel required to support the global supplier and partner network for actuator products.
