Staff Physician-Radiologist

The VA Maryland Health Care System invites applications from radiologists to join our dynamic Imaging Service. Radiologists from across the spectrum of subspecialty areas are encouraged to apply, with particular interest in breast imaging, body imaging, and interventional radiology. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available. The service uses Optum PACS and PowerScribe reporting, with remote external teleradiology services for evening, overnight and weekend coverage. Teaching is part of the clinical workflow, and research opportunities are available for those who are interested. Major Duties Include: Responsible for interpreting imaging studies and/or performing image guided procedures as defined by the clinical privileges requested and approved by the VA Maryland Health Care System Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) Board. Imaging modalities which the candidate may be responsible for include: CT, MRI, US, general radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, and nuclear medicine. Review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, provide oversight of technical image quality, provide clinical oversight of medication/contrast administration, and actively participate in various aspects of quality assurance and accreditation including peer review. Collaborate with department staff, and provide clinical leadership for operational workflows. The department has a teaching affiliation with a university affiliate and the radiologist will have responsibilities in instructing and supervising trainees who are rotating through the Imaging Service. Participation in departmental meetings and institutional multi-disciplinary clinical conferences. Contacting clinical providers as needed to assure effective patient care, discussing evaluation, management, follow-up and other aspects of coordinated, patient-centered care.
