Staff Software Engineer, Data Center Orchestration

Data Center Orchestration is responsible for coordinating and executing the physical processes in response to requested datacenter changes by sequencing the necessary operations and executing the optimized sequence. In a nutshell, if a machine is serving in a Google Data Center, it was deployed by Data Center Orchestration's software.

The team is building a new architecture that will re-imagine how we orchestrate deployment of capacity to meet the exponential growth in complexity desired by our cloud and ML customers.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Design, develop, test, and enhance large-scale software solutions using our internal workflow engine to build a foundational data center equipment fulfillment ecosystem.
  • Lead, coach, and invest in a distributed team of 3 engineers, mentoring members on both technical and non-technical skills to foster a high-trust, high-performing environment.
  • Define the strategic goal for your team, establish a clear execution roadmap, and manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables to support infrastructure growth.
  • Partner with external stakeholders to determine optimal processes and facilitate alignment across teams on shared goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Promote open communication and clarity across engineering boundaries, ensuring smooth orchestration of high-impact data center deployment projects.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows.
  • Experience with Technical Design, Data Integration, Design Documents, Leadership and Cross Functional Collaboration.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with Java and Mentoring.
