STEAM Facilitator (Part-time)

Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) is seeking a part-time STEAM Facilitator to help deliver hands-on, engaging learning experiences through our Maker Mobile program, STEAM Nights, and community events. This is a dynamic, people-centered role ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, leading interactive activities, and contributing to a mission-driven team that inspires curiosity and discovery.


Enjoy a flexible, part-time schedule (up to 16 hours per week) with hours that vary based on program needs, including school-day, afterschool, evening, and occasional weekend events. This role is grant-funded, with continuation dependent on funding availability.

Through project kits, Maker Mobile events, educator workshops, and student programs, RAFT brings STEAM learning to life in meaningful and engaging ways.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and facilitate hands-on STEAM activities for students (TK–8) at schools and community sites
  • Lead activity stations or portions of events as needed
  • Engage students in creative problem-solving, engineering, and science challenges
  • Support STEAM Nights, workshops, and family engagement events
  • Adapt facilitation style to meet diverse learning needs
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, and materials organization
  • Load, transport, and organize program materials (including Maker Mobile support if assigned)
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to improve activities and delivery
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

What Is Required

  • Experience working with youth (education, camps, afterschool programs, etc.)
  • Strong facilitation and group engagement skills
  • Ability to explain basic science and engineering concepts in a simple, engaging way
  • Comfortable leading or supporting hands-on, interactive activities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliability and flexibility in an event-based environment

What You Bring

  • Experience with STEAM or maker-based learning
  • Familiarity with project-based learning or NGSS
  • Experience with community or family engagement events
  • Spanish language skills
  • Comfort using basic tools (e.g., hot glue guns, simple hand tools)
