Steel Fabrication Quality Inspector

Schedule: First Shift
Starting Pay: Up to $32.00 per hour (higher compensation may be available based on experience)
Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Steel Fabrication Quality Inspector to support quality assurance activities within a structural steel manufacturing environment. This position focuses on inspecting fabricated steel products, weld quality, coatings, and materials to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards.
This is a hands-on manufacturing role with most of the work performed on the production floor. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled shop and spending the majority of the day walking, standing, and inspecting fabricated components.
What You'll Do
Perform inspections of structural steel assemblies throughout the fabrication process.
Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards, including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC requirements.
Inspect incoming steel, materials, hardware, and welding consumables for quality and specification compliance.
Document inspection results and properly identify approved or rejected materials.
Maintain quality records, inspection reports, and related documentation.
Calibrate and verify welding equipment and quality inspection instruments.
Assist with welder qualification testing and certification activities.
Support training efforts involving welding procedures, fitting practices, and quality expectations.
Maintain drawing revisions and quality documentation to ensure current information is used during production.
Work closely with production personnel and supervisors to identify and resolve quality concerns.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and required company training.
Follow all workplace safety policies and help maintain a safe manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
Previous experience in quality inspection, quality control, or manufacturing inspection.
Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Experience using common inspection equipment, including:
- Fillet weld gauges
- V-WAC gauges
- Squares
- Tape measures
- Standard quality inspection tools
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
Experience performing or evaluating nondestructive testing methods, including:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Additional certifications related to welding inspection, coatings, bolting, or structural steel fabrication.
- Previous experience in a structural steel manufacturing or fabricatio
Work Environment
Majority of work performed on the manufacturing floor.
Active structural steel fabrication environment.
Facility is not climate controlled.
Position requires standing, walking, bending, and inspecting materials throughout the shift.
