Position Summary
Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides support for faculty in curriculum planning and mapping, classroom instruction planning and evaluation, syllabus preparation and problem solving.
- Supervises faculty and staff and student employees.
- Represents the institution at state or other external forums.
- Performs and manages all aspects of budget oversight, planning and procurement.
- Evaluates, improves, and develops curriculum in alignment with the institutions strategic goals.
- Leads monthly (or as needed) departmental meetings with staff and faculty.
- Participates in strategic and instructional meetings; student advisement, and professional development as needed.
- Conducts regular department meetings and provides information on institutional activities.
- Initiates referrals and oversees departmental grievance procedures.
- Disseminates and analyzes reports and data from faculty related to the assessment of student learning to include attendance, failing grades, SLOAs, Program Review, accreditation reports etc.
- Reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services all operations and concerns of the department.
- Participates in institutional, professional and other internal committee activities.
- Participates in recruitment on behalf of the department.
- Initiates and administers student recruitment and retention efforts related to the STEM / Humanities programs, including but not limited to advising prospective students.
- Prepares institutional and external reports as directed/needed.
- Mentors and evaluates faculty annually.
- Develops and provides a professional development program for staff and faculty as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Budget development and administration
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Strong leadership skills to include administrative and supervisory skills
- Adult learning theory, curriculum development and classroom presentation techniques.
- Counseling and advising methods and techniques.
- Research methodology and information resources related to STEM / Humanities curriculum delivery.
- Program development, administration and evaluation.
- Skill in the delivery of nursing care and services.
- Able to supervise students in clinical settings.
- Ability to prepare and present classroom lectures.
- Proficient in the use of standard office equipment, including personal computer and standard office software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
- Exerting up to I10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
- The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- This position is not a remote position and serves the college from the Las Vegas, New Mexico campus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's Degree in Administration or any area in in the STEM or Humanities discipline is required.
- Three to five years of teaching experience in a college or university or in an academic administrative position is required.
