Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineering Manager to lead structural design and execution across our product lines. You will lead a team of 3-5 structural engineers — responsible for both guiding the team and staying close to the technical work.
This position will participate in technical client conversations, pricing efforts, design development, code reviews, specification compliance, equipment certification, equipment testing, guidance for development of construction documents, support during manufacturing, commissioning, and warranty.
The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of design professionals, fostering collaboration and supporting career growth. Promote a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Technical Design: Provide technical design support with a focus on structural design engineering. Design and test custom modular data centers (MDC), air handling equipment, and computer room air handling units to client specifications.
Project Execution: Take a subject mater expert (SME) role in project execution, support for estimating, business development, sales, production improvements, and marketing.
Product Optimization: Lead testing activities to evaluate and validate design solutions for manufactured equipment. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying best practices and implementing innovative design solutions.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design submittals, reports, drawings, and Engineering Change Requests. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for design processes and VAVE initiatives.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance enhancement. Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
Qualifications:
BSc. Civil Engineering, MSc. Structural Engineering, M.Eng. Structural Engineering, or equivalent
Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation or immediate eligibility for professional membership with APEGA
Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering
Experience leading team members
Practical experience with risk management, product design and testing
Ability to integrate new technologies into machines and converse with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of Electrical, Structural, and Controls engineering
Experience as an APEGA Responsible Member and Permit to Practice holder
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Creo, Revit, and RISA
Deep technical knowledge of seismic design and vibration analysis
Static and dynamic analysis, finite element analysis (FEA) experience
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials including cold formed steel
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to data center equipment
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $110,000 - $165,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
