Position Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Structural Steel Shop Supervisor to help lead daily operations in a busy steel fabrication facility. This position is responsible for coordinating shop activities, supporting production goals, and providing day-to-day leadership for welders, fitters, and other fabrication personnel.
This role is ideal for someone with strong structural steel fabrication experience who enjoys mentoring employees, solving production challenges, and helping maintain a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Shop Leadership
- Help organize daily production activities to meet manufacturing schedules and customer deadlines.
- Direct the work of welders, fitters, and fabrication team members throughout each shift.
- Assign work based on production priorities while balancing labor and shop resources.
- Monitor workflow and communicate production status, delays, or scheduling concerns to management.
- Provide technical guidance involving fit-up, welding procedures, material layout, and blueprint interpretation.
- Assist the team in resolving fabrication challenges and production issues.
- Work with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime and keep production moving.
- Perform additional leadership duties as needed to support shop operations.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure employees follow company safety policies.
- Reinforce quality expectations throughout the fabrication process.
- Partner with Quality Control personnel to verify completed work meets required specifications.
- Assist with dimensional inspections, documentation, and quality checks when needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and productive work environment.
- Support onboarding and training for new employees.
- Provide coaching and ongoing performance feedback to shop personnel.
- Encourage teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across the fabrication team.
