Sub Fabrication Expeditor

The Sub-Fabrication Expeditor is responsible for ensuring the Subshops deliver on their commitment for the specific scope and services required by the Purchase Order. This is generally achieved with constant coordination, monitoring, reporting, projecting and participating in corrective measures, when needed.

Core Responsibilities

  • Interface with project management team and other departments to schedule and coordinate work being performed by the Sub shop.
  • Monitor and Track manpower at Subshop to ensure they are assigning proper resources to maintain or beat fabrication and coating schedules.
  • Act as the conduit for information flow between the Project Manager and the Subshop.
  • Work closely with purchasing, Production Planning, Production Control to schedule and coordinate material transfers to Subshop.
  • Provides daily update reports to Project Manager of fabricator visits.
  • Inspect work being fabricated or coated at Subshop and ensure work conforms to shop drawings, Schuff Steel and Project specific QA/QC requirements.
  • Track, understand, and reports Subshop’s adherence to Project Schedules.
  • Work with Project Team and Schuff QA to expedite corrective action resolutions for non-conforming items.
  • Work closely with Project Team/Manager to assist Subshop to incorporate changes relating to drawings and materials while providing explanations and answers to mitigate excessive extra charges from Subshop.
  • Assures that the proper drawings are being used in the Subshop.
  • Makes regularly scheduled visits to Subshops as directed by VP of SubFab or Lead Expeditor.
  • Monitor and report any visits from 3rd party Inspectors or Clients to the Subshop.
  • Reports status of materials, fabrication, and any foreseen variation in scheduled activities.
  • Ensure fabrication progress is being scanned
  • Build Loads for material being shipped from Subshops.
  • Participate in production-related meetings and calls when it pertains to the Subshops being managed.

Technical Skills:

  • Read and interpret Shop Drawings, Contract Drawings and Specifications.
  • General understanding and knowledge of basic drafting skills, fabrication standards and procedures.
  • Ability to build a micro schedule with activities and durations utilizing scheduling software or excel program.
  • Read and understand subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Understands basic AISC, AWS, IBC, and other related specifications and codes.
  • Basic accounting practices such as pricing, change orders and invoice processing.

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in fabrication, manufacturing or construction related industries.
  • High School Diploma or GED (would prefer higher-level education but don’t want to disqualify craft candidates).
  • Two (2) years' of Detailing/Drafting experience highly preferred.

Job Demands:

  • 50% - 80% Travel (In/Out-of-state)
  • Position requires a lot of standing and walking in and around Subshops
  • Work environment may be in outside weather for longer periods of time
