Superintendent/Custodian

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) Part-time Superintendent/Custodian in the Community Center Division. We are looking for a dynamic custodian to service our Cypress Hills-East New York Community Center. The center is a “one-stop” service hub where residents, young and old, can advance educationally and economically, engage in recreation, arts & cultural activities, secure benefits and support services, and mobilize and organize to fight injustice. The community center brings together and help expand many of our youth development, college access and workforce development programs.

Principal Duties:

  • Set and ensure adherence to maintenance, health, waste management and safety standards for the community center.
  • Clean and inspect the center on a daily basis and identify any needed repairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facilities.
  • Disinfect public or nonpublic areas including building, event halls, offices, restrooms, lobby, stairways, corridors, etc. Cleaning procedures include but are not limited to emptying waste receptacles and place them in areas designed for disposal. Thorough sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping glass, washing toilets, urinals and wash basins.
  • Replenishing paper towel, toilet paper and soap or any other cleaning related task that needs to be completed.
  • Light plumbing work.
  • Notify managers when the building needs repairs.
  • Keeps accurate records regarding preventative maintenance, service request inventories and painting schedules.
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff, residents, and their visitors.
  • General upkeep of the buildings and grounds
  • Snow removal and landscaping
  • Fulfilling special projects including but not limited to: light carpentry, opening and closing facility, setting up rooms for special events (moving chairs and tables).
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. multiple times a day.
  • Ability to take direction and work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adhere to all cleaning safety protocols, general OSHA standards and requirements.
  • Attend and participate in all departmental training and meetings.
  • Attend and complete relevant on-the job training as required.
  • Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • High School or GED diploma required.
  • Must be able to read, speak and write in English.
  • Must clear fingerprinting and background authorizations.
  • All applicants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 at time of submission. Proof of vaccination will be required if offered a position
  • 5 years’ experience in maintenance/custodial work preferred.
  • Ability to work in an isolated environment with minimal supervision
  • Use of portable fire extinguisher
  • Personal Protective Equipment awareness
  • Safe Equipment Handling

Work Environment:

  • This position works in a janitorial setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as broom, mop, vacuum, cleaning products and gloves.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and high manual dexterity sufficient for duties above. This includes the ability to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, walk, and run; must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Travel:

  • Occasional local travel will be expected for this position.

Supervision:

  • Reports directly to the Facility Manager.

Compensation:

  • $30.00 hourly Schedule expected to be weekdays from 12pm to 5pm.
