About the role

The Superintendent MPP Operations is responsible for leading and managing the full end‑to‑end processing workflow—from crushing through stockyard operations to train load-out—ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable performance with a strong focus on achieving optimal cost per tonnage. The role develops and implements operational readiness plans, standard operating procedures, and competency‑based training programs to strengthen team capability and ensure compliance with Simfer operational standards.

This position oversees all crushing, stacking, reclaiming, and re‑handle movements by coordinating fixed and heavy mobile equipment in a safe and effective manner that aligns with Rio Tinto and world‑class bulk handling standards. The Superintendent fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, promoting operational excellence across all functional areas. Additionally, the role is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance, increase productivity, and deliver cost‑efficient outcomes throughout all processing activities.


Responsibilities

  • Embed safety as core value and the highest priority throughout all Operational activities including contractor activities (controlled and monitored).

  • Develop fit for purpose while ensuring utilization of existing Rio Tinto Iron Ore group policies, process and procedures as a first preference.

  • Ensure the requirements of Operations Philosophy are fulfilled and coordinate development of specific Simfer policies and procedures where required.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant business processes and procedures.

  • Responds to emergency situations using established procedures

  • Focus on KPI’s like Gross Load Rates, Net Load Rates, re-claim rates monitor the trend and report to Plant Manager with preventive solutions before issues arise.

  • Participates in HSE awareness by ensuring the correct SOP’s/SWP’s and or JHA’s are used and is firmly in place for all tasks.

  • Ensure that key performance indicators are in place to monitor, analyses and report on the business operational performance.

  • Managing contractor performance with a focus on cost per ton for all allocated tasks.

  • Producing short- and medium-term plan including stockpile inventory management, quality control and improvement strategies

  • Deputize Senior roles as required and ability to learn and develop into further roles of the SimFer Org structure.

  • Define and participate in activities necessary to ensure operational success of 40 MT target and gradual ramp up to 65 MT with continuous improvement.

  • Ensures that Crushing, Stockyard and TLO Shift Operations’ targets are met safely, on time and within budget.

  • Identify and manage all defects to equipment which include Crushers, Sampling system, Conveyors, Stackers/Reclaimers, Train Load and emergency mobile crushing/feeding system.

  • Ensure suitable availability and optimized usage of the Mobile Plant Equipment used for feeding the Emergency Feeder System and general plant housekeeping.

  • Recruit, train, and mentor national superintendent, plant operators and supervisors to build operational capability.

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement aligned to operational excellence

  • Liaise with Maintenance, Reliability, and Technical Services teams to ensure integrated plant performance oriented to profit margin


Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mining, Operation or related discipline.

  • Strong safety culture or proven experience preferred

  • Female application is considered as highly advantageous

  • Minimum 10 years in inclusive mineral processing operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.

  • Current members of Rio Tinto Iron ore Product groups IO will be advantageous

  • Proven Experience in Mining, Rail & Port Export Operation

  • Exposure to cross-functional and multicultural greenfield mining & operation projects preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of mineral processing circuits and plant control systems.

  • Familiarity with Integrated Management Systems tools and techniques (SAP, MineMarket, Aviva..).

  • Proficiency in production reporting systems and MS Office Suite.

  • Strong team player with ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment

  • Language: English required with intermediate French desirable.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
