Position purpose:
Manage, supervise, coordinate, and plan all activities related to the services offered by the Writing Assistance Centre while ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the Centre. Develop, plan, and implement strategies to provide services that meet the evolving needs of students. Serve as a subject matter expert on best practices in university mentoring.
Work collaboratively with faculties and administrative units to develop relevant training content tailored to the needs of mentors across the University, fostering and sustaining a university-wide community of practice in mentoring.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Human Resources Management. Recruit, supervise, and support staff in accordance with University policies, including performance management, workforce planning, team goal setting, and the development of individual learning and professional development plans. Foster accountability among team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality services at the Writing Assistance Centre. Coordinate, assign, and review staff work while ensuring an equitable distribution of responsibilities and workload.
Staff Training and Development. Provide guidance, coaching, and training to staff, ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and tools required to carry out their responsibilities effectively and efficiently. Ensure that operational processes and service delivery are aligned with students' needs.
Networking and Community Building. Coordinate networking activities with faculties and administrative units to promote and sustain a university-wide community of practice focused on university mentoring.
Complementary Programs and Services. Design, develop, and implement a range of services that respond to the needs identified by faculties and administrative units. These services may include writing workshops, writing cafés, anti-procrastination events, writing nights, and other student engagement initiatives.
Collaboration. Work closely with faculties and administrative units to develop and coordinate activities and services that support undergraduate and graduate students in academic writing, including writing cafés, anti-procrastination initiatives, and other writing support programs.
Resources and Support. Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of academic writing resources, including style guides, sample papers, citation and referencing tools, and writing support software. Provide guidance and support to writing mentors in the effective use of these resources.
Communications. In collaboration with the Student Affairs Communications Officer, plan, develop, and implement a communications strategy to promote the Writing Assistance Centre's programs, services, and activities.
What you will bring:
A graduate degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a post-secondary education environment.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in human resources management or staff supervision.
Excellent academic writing and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in student services within a university setting.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or training.
Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing programs based on client needs assessment.
Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
