Sustainability Octopus's Garden Summer Student Workers

One primary responsibility of this role is to provide summer support to Octopus’s Garden.
Responsibilities include watering, weeding, planting (if applicable), and other necessary garden
maintenance. Another primary purpose of this role is to provide summer support to the Office of
Sustainability as a summer intern. Responsibilities include data collection for the Association of
Sustainability in Higher Education’s (AASHE) “Sustainability Tracking and Rating System”
(STARS) report, administrative tasks, and strategic planning for the upcoming academic year.
This role will be up to 30 hours per week.

Hours/Shifts Available: 30hr/week Monday-Friday day hours

Rate of Pay: $16/hr

Number of Positions available: 5

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Watering, weeding and planting schedules.

  • Coordinate with current Octopus’s Garden Associates to learn the needs of the garden’s watering, weeding and planting schedules.

  • Promote Octopus's Garden and Office of Sustainability social media when necessary

  • Communicate with other dedicated members/leaders of Octopus's Garden to ensure a smooth transition between summer and school-year staff, and preserve valuable practices and relationships

  • Split time effectively between garden and office responsibilities

  • Data collection and narrative writing for AASHE STARS

  • Provide support for Office of Sustainability summer initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with and knowledge of gardening techniques and skill sets

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors, with some physical labor included

  • Energy and initiative

  • Excellent organizational and communications skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite

  • Experience with Canva
