Engineer, Firmware Developer

Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.

This is a hands-on embedded firmware role where you’ll be close to the hardware from day one, bringing up new platforms, debugging at the board level, and writing low-level drivers in C/C++. You’ll work across the full stack of embedded systems, from boot and power sequencing to hardware interfaces like I2C, SPI, and UART, using real lab tools to solve complex system issues. The environment is highly collaborative, working directly with hardware and system engineers to define and refine how new platforms come to life. If you enjoy getting your hands on real hardware and solving problems that span firmware and electronics, this is a strong growth role.

This role is hybrid, based out of Toronto, ON.

We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting.

Who you are

  • You have a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • You’re strong in C (and some C++) and understand fundamentals like memory layout, pointers, and basic concurrency.
  • You’ve had exposure to embedded systems through coursework, projects, internships, or co-ops (MCUs or SoCs).
  • You’re comfortable in Linux environments using git, build systems, and command-line tools, and you enjoy debugging at the hardware–software boundary.

What we need

  • Strong C/C++ firmware development skills for microcontrollers and SoCs.
  • Experience bringing up hardware platforms, including basic driver work (GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, timers, watchdog).
  • Ability to debug using lab tools like JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and serial consoles.
  • Familiarity with embedded testing and collaboration across hardware, board, and system software teams.

What you will learn

  • End-to-end hardware bring-up, from early boards to stable firmware platforms.
  • Low-level system behavior, including boot, reset, and power sequencing.
  • Hands-on embedded debugging across firmware, hardware interfaces, and system behavior.
  • Exposure to production embedded stacks (e.g., RTOS, Embedded Linux, bootloaders, and system tooling).

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $100k - $500k including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.

Tenstorrent offers a highly competitive compensation package and benefits, and we are an equal opportunity employer.
