JOB PURPOSE
Tally Clerk in warehousing plays a crucial role in the inventory management and logistics process. The job purpose of a Tally Clerk in warehousing is to ensure the accurate and efficient tracking, counting, and recording of goods and products as they enter, move within, and exit the warehouse.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in daily safety and operational toolbox meetings.
- Report to and inspect assigned work areas at the start of each shift.
- Conduct visual inspections of incoming products for damage, scratches, and other quality concerns.
- Monitor trailer conditions and dwell times at dock doors, reporting aging trailers and delays as required.
- Coordinate with gatehouse/receiving clerks to obtain status updates on inbound loads and trailers awaiting dock door assignments.
- Meet and communicate with truck drivers upon arrival to verify shipment information and direct them to the appropriate receiving locations.
- Coordinate with unloading personnel (lumpers) at assigned dock doors to ensure efficient unloading operations.
- Verify products received against shipping documentation, ensuring accuracy in quantities, product descriptions, and condition.
- Record and report discrepancies, shortages, overages, or damaged goods identified during the receiving process.
- Maintain accurate receiving records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse, receiving, and transportation teams to support smooth inbound operations.
- Follow all company safety, quality, and operational procedures while performing receiving and tally functions.
QUALIFICATION
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Tally Clerks must have a keen eye for detail to accurately count and record inventory and to spot any discrepancies or errors.
- Strong mathematical skills are crucial for counting and reconciling inventory accurately.
- Effective organization and record-keeping abilities are essential to maintain accurate inventory records.
