Tax Manager - Product & Operations
You will act at the intersection of tax compliance and product management. You will interpret local tax codes (with a primary focus on Germany), translate complex tax requirements into clear product and engineering requirements, help design and test tax calculation logic, and support automation of tax workflows. You will monitor regulatory changes, summarize impacts on product logic, serve as a contact for tax authorities, and coordinate with external local advisors and auditors. You will also support expansion into additional European jurisdictions such as Spain and France and review tax logic for new product launches.
Responsibilities
- Translate complex tax legislation into actionable product and engineering requirements
- Research and integrate tax calculation and reporting logic for Spain and France
- Provide tax input for product design and test tax calculation engines
- Provide subject matter expertise on German personal income tax, capital gains, and reporting for financial instruments
- Improve and automate tax-related workflows to minimize manual reviews
- Monitor tax law changes across jurisdictions and summarize impacts on platform logic
- Act as primary contact with German tax authorities (BZSt) and assist with Spanish AEAT
- Coordinate with local tax advisors, auditors, and outsourced compliance partners
Requirements
- 4-7+ years of experience in capital markets taxation, financial services tax advisory (Big 4), or tax/operations roles within fintech or brokerage
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge of German personal tax law, particularly regarding financial products and automated withholding models
- Ability to translate complex tax concepts for non-experts and collaborate closely with software engineers
- Professional fluency in English and native or near-native fluency in German
- Experience with or exposure to broader European tax regimes, particularly Spain (IRPF) and France (PFU), is desirable
- Professional proficiency in Spanish or French is a significant advantage
- Relevant degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or Law; official German tax advisor qualification (Steuerberater) is a plus
- Previous exposure to retail brokerage operations, fast-paced tech environments, or international client portfolios is preferred
