This role is ideal for a tax professional looking to expand beyond traditional compliance into a more technical, research-driven, and transaction-focused career path. As part of the National Office Tax team, you will gain exposure to the “why behind the work,” supporting complex real estate transactions, structuring considerations, and technical tax analysis that impact both internal teams and clients. This practice serves a wide range of clients with specific needs including real estate private equity funds, public and private REITs, as well as privately owned Real Estate held by family offices or joint ventures. We are looking for individuals who:

Work you’ll be responsible for:

  • Support the review and analysis of tax returns and workpapers, identifying technical issues and opportunities for further research and structuring considerations

  • Proactively research tax law changes, emerging issues, and industry trends, with a focus on understanding the technical implications on real estate structures and transactions

  • Draft technical memoranda and communicate complex tax concepts in a clear, practical manner to internal stakeholders and clients

  • Responsible for research and analysis of various federal income tax issues, including real estate tax, partnerships, REITs, S corporations, C corporations, timing issues and accounting methods, and other matters

  • Transactional analysis and tax structuring related to the acquisition, restructuring, and disposition of real estate assets in joint venture, fund and REIT/blocker structures

  • Manage REIT tax structuring and due diligence projects for real estate acquisition transactions

  • Consult and advise on like-kind exchanges and reverse like-kind exchanges focusing on tax implications with respect to boot and liabilities

  • Assist with the review of fund documents, joint venture/lower-tier partnership agreements and the tax consequences of the economic agreements (tax allocations, distribution preferences, etc.)

  • Review of tax projections, tax workpapers and tax returns for clients in the real estate industry including partnerships and REITs

  • Monitor and review legislative and administrative updates impacting real estate, REITs, real estate private equity, and debt fund clients, including development of related internal and external content

  • Draft Firm-wide alerts on current developments in federal income tax

  • Assist with Firm-wide trainings in federal income tax

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent field is required

  • 3 - 5 years of public accounting experience, with exposure to real estate, partnerships, or flow-through taxation.

  • CPA or IRS Enrolled Agent Certification

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced tax degrees (J.D., LL.M.) or relevant technical experience are considered a plus but not required

  • Demonstrated interest in technical tax topics, research, or transaction related work.

  • Experience using GoSystems or CCH Axcess tax software

Compensation is based on experience level, with most candidates for this role falling within the Senior Associate to early Manager range.

For NYC and California, the expected salary range for this position is between $125,000.00 and $250,000. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
