Teaching Assistant
Peabody Overview:
Peabody School was founded in 1994 to “serve the needs of academically advanced children of all backgrounds by promoting cognitive, social, and emotional development for each child at a rate commensurate with his or her ability, while providing a foundation for students to become lifelong learners.” This mission is best embodied in our motto: Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
Peabody enrolls 220 students in grades PreK - 8th grade, and embraces the whole child using a rigorous academics program, including extensive instruction in fine and performing arts, world languages, technology, and physical education.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students, teachers, and the daily operations of the school. Responsibilities include: assisting in instructing and supervising children in the classroom, proctoring study halls for students in grades 5-8, providing coverage during lunch, recess, and dismissal, serving as a substitute teacher when needed, leading the Pre-K After School program from 3:30pm-5:30pm M-F, and supporting classroom teachers in the following ways:
- Discusses assigned duties with lead teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
- Assists in instructing and supervising children in the classroom
- Assists children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by lead teacher
- Supervises the students in the classroom and other areas of the school as needed
- Helps to maintain a clean and organized learning environment
- Supports students with behaviors that may interfere with learning and/or relationships
- Reads and adheres to all policies as stated in the handbook
Qualifications & Skills
- Associate’s Degree or higher (required)
- Experience working with children in a school setting
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with children
- Flexible & proactive problem solving
- MAT training (completed upon hire)
This is a full-time position with benefits. 9:30am-5:30pm. Qualified candidates should submit their application materials on the Peabody School website.
