Looking for a passionate, business driven and technical leader with expertise in Utilities Design with Drainage and roads design experince for Development Team within Planning and Development, PPA for UK market.

Act as the ‘technical face’ of the India-based Development (DI) – Utilities and Drainage team, provide Technical leadership and direction for the GCC Development team and ensuring that it is aligned with the wider UK PPA P&D business

As the Technical Lead, you will be at the forefront of creating engineering marvels and leading a team of technical experts. You will work closely with the UK Technical Leadership Group (TLG) - UK GCC SBU Head, UK Technical Directors, Project Directors, Project Managers, and Business Development team across the PPA P&D Strategic Business Unit (and wider WSP UK / global business) and will report to Head of P&D / PPA GCC.

  • Exhibiting and demonstrating behaviours and attitudes in accordance with WSP core values.
  • Working in partnership with GCC and UK colleagues to ensure coordination across the Development discipline and sharing of market intelligence, best practice and innovation.
  • Engaging with the UK Development, Technical Leadership Group (TLG) to promote technical innovation, best practice and technological advancements for infrastructure development for major projects.
  • Supporting the Place Lead establish in WS UK Development in the local marketplace and raise its profile.
  • Track record in securing new workstreams and generating new business opportunities in the Development sector / market.
  • Support the Place Lead Role in Technical leadership of UK Development team alongside other Senior Team Members within GCC India.
  • Technical expert in one or more fields of Civil Engineering related to Development, especially Utilities (Wet/Dry) with flair in drainage designs for UK Market.
  • Mentoring and coaching of Mid-Career Professional’s in Client Management, Project Management & technical leadership roles / functions.
  • Leading and support bids by contributing reviewing and authorising submissions and by demonstrating added value both commercially and technically.
  • Supporting all aspects associated with H&S / Corporate Responsibility and ensure the team complies with SHEQ, (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality).
  • Technical expertise in Utilities (Wet/Dry) with flair in drainage, SuDS, flood risk, highways, streetscape, earthworks and utilities to all types of land, property and infrastructure development projects across all sectors and clients.
  • You will provide project leadership on several varied multi-disciplinary projects acting as Technical Authority / Subject Matter Expert where required.
  • You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.
  • You will be responsible to actively engage in, ensuring projects are delivered within budget, on programme, and to the required quality for technical and legal compliance.
  • Developing innovative solutions that push the boundaries of engineering aligns to UK national and local development policy to ensure a sustainable approach to managing surface water runoff.
  • Able to provide clear guidance to developers to deliver compliant and sustainable development, with guidance on Utility Modelling for Dry and Wet, design for flood resilience, reviewing flood risk assessments, surface water drainage systems, SUDS integrating nature-based solutions.
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance for land development Utility design and associated activities.
  • Instructing, supervising and monitoring engineers for various roads, utilties drainage related surveys and associated designs as required.
  • Technical governance of the roads utility teams output working together with UK technical governance of all deliverables from GCC.
  • Supporting the UK on bidding opportunities through technical inputs.

  • Line Manager/ Technical Team Development – PDRs, promotion, training & mentoring.

  • Excellent inter-personal skills with good technical leadership abilities capable of communicating effectively and lead technical discussions with all parts of the business within GCC and UK.
  • Strong commercial and strategic capability with a demonstrable track record in having identified and subsequently delivered new business opportunities.
  • Demonstrate the desire to constantly improve, motivate and encourage others, lead and implement change programmes, inspiring colleagues and drive an innovative and supportive culture. Act as a catalyst for change and bring technical Excellence in Utility designs.
  • A broad range of project experience, both within Discipline and multi-disciplinary.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, use own knowledge to support and coach others as required. Actively champion sharing knowledge, ideas and intelligence. Strong presentation skills, able to lead and facilitate workshops, training sessions and one to one learning. Influential and persuasive internally and externally, encourages open dialogue and feedback.
  • Able to reason logically and apply a systematic process to finding solutions, proactive in responding to problems, able to apply sound logic in situations of ambiguity and problem-solving methodologies across a range of circumstances.
  • Manage the team and processes to ensure the preparation and checking of documents, reports and other technical outputs as per QA.

  • Lead to prepare design solutions and develop methodologies, technical reports for various design stages for Utility dry & wet projects.

  • Manage consultants in the preparation of design of Pre Earthwork Ditches, Swales, Storage structures, flow controls, complex control systems, catchment analysis, Drainage design for urban and infrastructure development.

  • Manage and co-ordinate remediation strategies and ensure regulatory approvals are obtained for Utility applications.

  • Ensure all engineering drawings for start on site including standard construction details for road infrastructure and any remediation proposals.

  • Handon Experince on all wet and dry utility drawings of existing, proposed and diversions including obtaining information from utility providers as per guidance.

  • Monitor and review team capability in the use of the required standards, processes and software tools, training required, opportunities to upskill existing technical resources or recruit new capabilities to deliver additional services or enhance existing ones.

  • Identify further Technical skills that could be brought into the GCC to deliver additional services or enhancements to various businesses.

  • Ensure process and governance such that all projects comply with Health and Safety, CDM and Quality Assurance Standards.

  • Undertake the Principal Designer Role in large size schemes.

  • Win Work mindset and align the business to secure major opportunities and an increasing work orders.
  • Must undertake continuous professional development.

  • Carry out audits of adherence to WSP Management and Quality processes and implement corrective measures where required.

  • Actively promote the UK GCC culture within the team and ensure that the staff deliver on promises.

  • Mentoring team members towards professional accreditation or equivalent.

  • Assit in recruitment to achieve budgeted and programmed team growth.

  • Ensuring that the Business Management System is implemented and maintained.
