Technical Instructor - Metering

This position is primarily responsible for developing and delivering training in revenue metering, communications, meter service order work, and other meter-related courses to support safe, reliable, and accurate metering systems.

Primary functions of this position

  • Promote and reinforce safe work practices in all training and field activities
  • Develop training programs for new equipment, software, and procedures
  • Design and develop web-based training materials
  • Create and maintain technical training manuals and work instructions
  • Deliver instructor-led training classes
  • Identify training needs proactively and develop effective solutions to address them
  • Conduct field visits to assess training retention and evaluate classroom effectiveness

Education and Job Experience

  • A two-year technical associate degree or certificate in a related field, or equivalent electrical/electronic work experience, is preferred
  • Previous experience as a meter specialist is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of and hands-on experience with the installation, testing, and maintenance of commercial and industrial metering systems, including current metering technologies
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a meter technician is preferred

  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of advanced commercial and industrial metering systems
  • Extensive knowledge of metering equipment installation, operating procedures, and programming software
  • Strong knowledge of business practices related to metering services, company operations, policies, and procedures
  • Proficiency in WattNet Plus and C2M, with working knowledge of OFS
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across all levels and departments
  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to translate technical information into effective lesson plans for training delivery
  • Ability to deliver professional and clearly understood classroom presentations
  • Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to learners
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines effectively
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and support others effectively
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills

Additional Information:

This position requires the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The selected candidate must:

  • Hold a valid driver’s license with at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
  • Have no revoked driving privileges within the past 36 months.
  • Have no major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the past 12 months and no pending major violations at the time of application.
  • Consent to continuous monitoring of their Motor Vehicle Record.
