About the Role
Flinders University is seeking a Technical Officer to provide laboratory-based technical support for undergraduate teaching within the College of Science and Engineering. Working as part of a collaborative technical team, you will help ensure practical classes are well-prepared, safely delivered, and effectively supported to enhance student learning outcomes.
In this position, you will:
- Provide technical support for undergraduate laboratory teaching, including preparation, setup, and operation of equipment and materials.
- Work with academic staff and technical teams to deliver practical classes, maintain resources, and ensure smooth teaching delivery across disciplines.
- Maintain safe and compliant teaching environments, including WHS procedures, risk assessments, and equipment maintenance.
- Contribute to documentation, stock control, and continuous improvement of practical teaching activities.
About You:
You are a capable and collaborative technical professional with experience supporting laboratory and/or field-based teaching or scientific work environments. You bring strong organisational skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively across teams.
You will demonstrate:
- Sound knowledge of contemporary physics (for part-time position) or knowledge of life sciences (for full-time position) with demonstrated experience in laboratory techniques, and the use, care and maintenance of associated equipment.
- Experience supporting undergraduate practical teaching or similar technical environments.
- Strong understanding of WHS requirements and safe laboratory/field practices.
- Good communication, teamwork, and organisational skills with proficiency in basic software tools.
