Technical Services Clerk

The Northville District Library is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and customer service-minded candidate to join our Technical Services Department.


Position Overview:

  • Hours: Part-time (20 hours per week).
  • Classification: Union position.
  • Compensation: $16.94 – $20.89 per hour (based on experience).

Essential Duties:

Cataloging & Database Management (Core Tech Duties)

  • Performs copy cataloging for print and non-print library materials using MARC format, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal classification system and other industry standards.
  • Add items records to bibliographic holdings in the Library’s online Koha catalog.
  • Performs data entry and assists with database maintenance.

Materials Processing & Collection Support

  • Prepares Gift Books for collection circulation.
  • Creates book club kits.
  • Assists with the physical processing of library materials as needed.

Administrative & Departmental Support

  • Monitors departmental supplies.
  • Works on special departmental projects.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education & Core Competencies

  • High school diploma
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in working with MS Office.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, or crouch.
  • Ability to push carts of library books and other materials weighing up to thirty pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous copy cataloging and library work experience.
  • Some college coursework.
  • Current Library Science students are highly encouraged to apply.
