Telecommunications Technician needs 1-2 years experience


Telecommunications Technician requires:

  • must have own basic hand tools
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Knowledge of test equipment
  • Knowledge of fiber optics•Knowledge of communications systems•Knowledge of telecommunications switching technology
  • Knowledge
    of computers and local area networking•Knowledge of fundamental radio
    frequency (RF) communications theory•Knowledge of networking
    fundamentals (TCP/IP/Ethernet)
  • Knowledge of VoIP fundamentals (RTP, jitter, delay, codecs)
  • Knowledge of IP routing and Ethernet switching functions
  • Knowledge of local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless and VoIP
  • Basic skill in reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams
  • Skill
    in troubleshooting electronic equipment•Skill in operating test
    equipment such as multimeters, RF meters, transmitter test sets, trunked
    radio programmers, etc.
  • Skill in providing customer care and support
  • Skill in programming routers and switches including voice enabled networking devices
  • Skill in configuring call routing in Cisco VoIP applications•Skill in troubleshooting basic LAN/WAN problems
  • LAN/WAN quality monitoring systems including VoIP monitoring tools
  • Basic skill level in Unix
  • Basic RFL, Nortel operating system , Hyper Terminal for direct serial connection to radios and Notebook computer

Telecommunications Technician duties;


  • Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
  • Pushes or pulls up to 50 pounds
  • Work involves finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard
  • constant standing and/or walking in assisting with installation and repair of equipment
  • climbing,
    crawling, crouching or other non-sitting positions in punching down
    phone cable, testing, installations, cable pulls and tower climbing less
    than 20% of the time
