Telecommunications Technician needs 1-2 years experience
Telecommunications Technician requires:
- must have own basic hand tools
- Knowledge of safety procedures
- Knowledge of test equipment
- Knowledge of fiber optics•Knowledge of communications systems•Knowledge of telecommunications switching technology
- Knowledge
of computers and local area networking•Knowledge of fundamental radio
frequency (RF) communications theory•Knowledge of networking
fundamentals (TCP/IP/Ethernet) - Knowledge of VoIP fundamentals (RTP, jitter, delay, codecs)
- Knowledge of IP routing and Ethernet switching functions
- Knowledge of local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless and VoIP
- Basic skill in reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams
- Skill
in troubleshooting electronic equipment•Skill in operating test
equipment such as multimeters, RF meters, transmitter test sets, trunked
radio programmers, etc. - Skill in providing customer care and support
- Skill in programming routers and switches including voice enabled networking devices
- Skill in configuring call routing in Cisco VoIP applications•Skill in troubleshooting basic LAN/WAN problems
- LAN/WAN quality monitoring systems including VoIP monitoring tools
- Basic skill level in Unix
- Basic RFL, Nortel operating system , Hyper Terminal for direct serial connection to radios and Notebook computer
Telecommunications Technician duties;
- Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
- Pushes or pulls up to 50 pounds
- Work involves finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard
- constant standing and/or walking in assisting with installation and repair of equipment
- climbing,
crawling, crouching or other non-sitting positions in punching down
phone cable, testing, installations, cable pulls and tower climbing less
than 20% of the time
