If you’re detail-oriented, passionate about animal welfare, and energized by a fast-paced, dynamic environment, this role offers the opportunity to support vulnerable cats and kittens who need us most. As part of a high-performing team caring for approximately 1,500 felines each year, you’ll support foster caregivers to further the ASPCA’s ultimate desired outcome that all animals live good lives.

Who We Are
In collaboration with the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control, the ASPCA LA Feline Programs provides temporary care and adoption opportunities for at-risk feline populations that might not find positive outcomes in a shelter environment. These populations include:
Orphaned neonates under 4 weeks old
Underage, orphaned kittens aged 4-8 weeks (our primary population)
Queens in need of a stress-free environment to raise their young
Juvenile and adult cats needing extra support finding adoption opportunities while recovering from illness or after extended stays in a shelter environment
About this Temporary Opportunity:
This is a part-time, contingent position.
The person hired will be employed through a third-party staffing agency.
The target hiring range for this temporary role is $25 per hour and may be modified in the future.
What You’ll Do
The Temporary Contract Driver will be responsible for transporting ASPCA-owned felines and supplies between various locations, including ASPCA facilities, LA County Animal Care Centers, foster volunteer homes, and veterinary clinics in the greater Los Angeles area. The Temporary Contract Driver will be responsible for securing felines into the vehicle for transport and ensuring they arrive to their destination safely and in a timely manner.
The contractor is responsible for monitoring supply inventory, distributing supplies among locations and re-stocking vehicles, submitting vehicle transport reports, cleaning and disinfecting vehicles, and on occasion, delivering ASPCA vehicles for maintenance and repairs.
Where and When You’ll Work
This is a seasonal opportunity with shifts typically available Monday – Saturday.
Schedule may change with programmatic needs, seasonality, or as needed by the ASPCA.
The contractor will provide transportation to/from various locations, including ASPCA facilities, LA County Animal Care Centers, foster volunteer homes, and veterinary clinics in the greater Los Angeles area.
The contractor will have access to an ASPCA passenger vehicle stationed at the Downey Animal Care Center to transport ASPCA-owned animals and supplies.
The Temporary Contract Driver may have the option to use their personal vehicle for transports following ASPCA safety and sanitation protocols, and would receive monthly mileage reimbursements.
Responsibilities
Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance. They include, but are not limited to:
Animal Transport
Perform pre- and post-transport vehicle inspections and submit transport reports
Load and unload felines in transport vehicle using Fear Free principles
Ensure felines are secured safely and comfortably in their carrier in the vehicle
Safely drive vehicle in varying weather conditions, traffic levels and road types
Monitor felines for obvious signs of illness, distress or injury during transport and report to ASPCA staff and foster volunteers following established protocols
Provide care and spot cleaning for felines on transport as needed
Communicate transport delays and updates to ASPCA staff and foster volunteers
Provide excellent customer service to ASPCA foster volunteers and veterinary partners
Supply Distribution, Disinfection and Vehicle Maintenance
Monitor supply levels, perform inventory checks and restock supplies among ASPCA locations and vehicles
Report vehicle issues and incidents following established protocols, and deliver ASPCA vehicles to service appointments as needed
Ensure vehicles are organized, clean and thoroughly disinfected between transports while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and sanitation protocols
Clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, foster supplies and facility spaces as needed while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and sanitation protocols
Complete ASPCA trainings as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history
Excellent customer service skills
Shows drive and passion for getting things done
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently
Basic experience and comfort working in Microsoft Office suite and cloud-based document sharing platforms
Adapts willingly to new ways of working, relationships or responsibilities
Able to lift up to 30 pounds and perform tasks requiring walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching throughout an 8-hour workday
Ability to vigorously, quickly and thoroughly clean animal spaces, including pushing, pulling and using cleaning tools such as a broom and mop

Education and Work Experience
High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Experience
At least 5 years of personal, volunteer or professional driving experience is preferred
At least 1 year of personal, volunteer or professional experience handling cats is a plus
