Tooling Technician II – 2nd Shift

Location: Fife, WA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Pay: $27.00–$35.00/hour DOE + $2.00/hour Shift Differential
Milgard Windows & Doors, part of MITER Brands, is seeking an experienced Tooling Technician II to join our manufacturing team in Fife, WA. This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and improving tooling used in our pultrusion manufacturing process. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and experienced with fabrication, TIG welding, and precision tooling.
Mandatory overtime is required based on business needs, including occasional Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot tooling and manufacturing line issues while partnering with Production and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
- Set up, align, maintain, repair, and modify pultrusion tooling, including dies, preformers, and guide systems.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble tooling with a high degree of care and precision to ensure proper performance and longevity.
- Inspect tooling for wear, damage, and defects; perform repairs or recommend replacement when necessary.
- Support tooling changeovers by locating, staging, aligning, and verifying tooling for upcoming production runs.
- Complete small- to medium-sized tooling builds, restoration projects, and tooling repairs.
- Perform fabrication work using blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications while maintaining tight tolerances.
- Utilize hand tools, cutting wheels, pneumatic tools, sheet metal shears, and precision measuring instruments.
- Perform TIG welding on thin-gauge stainless steel and mild steel components; experience using silicon bronze is highly desirable.
- Operate fabrication equipment including mills, lathes, brakes, and benders as needed. Milling experience is a plus.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling life, product quality, and production efficiency.
- Operate forklifts to move, stage, and store tooling when required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures and properly utilize required PPE.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–5 years of tooling, fabrication, welding, mechanical repair, or related manufacturing experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience repairing and maintaining tooling or manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with hand tools, pneumatic tools, shears, brakes, and measuring equipment.
- Experience working with close tolerances and precision assemblies.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the shift.
- Strong attention to detail when disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling tooling.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and communicate across language and cultural differences.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-oriented approach.
Preferred
- TIG welding experience
- Experience welding thin-gauge stainless steel and mild steel.
- Experience with silicon bronze welding.
- Tool and die experience or formal tooling training.
- Milling, machining, or fabrication experience.
- Forklift experience.
- Associate degree or technical certification in a related field.
- Experience with CMMS or preventative maintenance systems

- Manual dexterity required for precision tooling assembly and repair work.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, dust, noise, chemicals, and moving machinery.
- Frequent use of acetone and other cleaning materials.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), which will be provided.
- Must be comfortable working in a loud industrial setting.
- Mandatory overtime as needed, including occasional Saturdays.
Ideal Backgrounds: Candidates with experience in fabrication, tooling, tool and die, mechanical repair, precision assembly, maintenance, machining, or TIG welding who are comfortable reading blueprints and working to tight tolerances will be highly successful in this role.
