Travelling Wind Technician - Electrical
Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Service Director, the Travelling Wind Farm Service Technician provides critical operational support across our national fleet. This role is pivotal in maintaining site performance, offering on-site technical leadership, and driving rapid troubleshooting of complex electrical assets. You will serve as a support interface between site management, internal engineering teams, and our clients to ensure maximum turbine availability and fleet optimization. This role will require you to travel frequently to our different wind farm sites.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Interpret the requirements of GEV manuals, specifications, bulletins and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GEV work instructions.
- Perform and ensure the proper maintenance and fault finding of assets.
- Act as the site HVOA Delegate when required.
- Nominated as the High Voltage operating Authority delegate for the site when required.
- Perform high voltage switching operations according to site procedures as required.
- Have a working knowledge of electrical installation requirements
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the above documents and to the organisation’s SWMS, LOTO, associated EHS & QA/QC policies/procedures.
- Drive a positive reporting culture by identifying errors, violations, incidents or problems immediately using GEV systems.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) responsibilities.
- Supervise electrical installation/maintenance work when required.
- Maintain reports using GEV’s various software management tools and databases.
- Report errors, violations, incidents or problems immediately using GEV reporting systems.
- Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved.
- Work closely with and answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Service Teams as required.
- Uphold and maintain Quality Control, by making conformance or non-conformance decisions upon completion of tasks and inspections.
- Form part of an on-call roster to work weekends and nights if required or as directed by management.
- Champion Safety by being familiar with and following all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to the job and cooperating with GEV investigations and EHS audits.
Qualifications and Experience:
- As a minimum, hold a registered Workers License Electrical (A-Grade or equivalent).
- Demonstrate previous experience in the Onshore Wind sector or similar heavy industry (Five years Minimum) would be highly regarded.
- Be nominated as the Electrical Supervisor in accordance with the Registered Electrical Contactors license and hold the position as the Nominated Qualified Supervisor - Electrical on behalf of the company.
- Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits and ability to T/S and conduct circuit analysis (24VDC, 166VDC, 120, 230, 400, 575, 690VAC);
- Demonstrate previous experience in High Voltage switching and operations.
- Have a current High Voltage operating certificate or the ability to gain one.
- Proficient in fault finding electrical and hydraulic equipment.
- Trained to an intermediate level in computer skills.
- Must have the ability to climb wind turbines and complete physically demanding tasks at heights.
- Experience working in remote locations and autonomously.
- Must be willing to travel >65% of the year.
