About the Role
Whipple Service Champions is growing our underground division and looking for motivated individuals with a solid excavation background. If you’ve run equipment, dug trenches, or worked in site excavation, grading, or general dirt work, you’re in the right place! This role supports our plumbing and underground teams by safely exposing utilities, digging trenches, operating equipment, and assisting with underground repair and replacement projects.

Underground Excavation Technician Duties:
Operate excavation equipment including mini‑excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and trenchers
Perform trenching and digging for water, sewer, and drain line projects
Assist underground crews with pipe replacement, spot repairs, and utility exposure
Follow safety procedures for trenching, shoring, and confined spaces
Work with plumbing teams to support underground repair jobs
Maintain equipment, jobsite cleanliness, and accurate documentation
Provide a great customer experience when interacting with homeowners
What We’re Looking For
- Site excavation (foundations, footings, basements)
General earthmoving or grading
Trenching for utilities, drainage, or construction
Heavy equipment operation — excavator, backhoe, skid steer, loader
Civil construction excavation
Underground utility experience (preferred but not required)
Requirements:
1+ year experience in excavation, dirt work, or equipment operation
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in all conditions
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn underground utility work
Ability to work in trenches and confined spaces
