Orchid Insurance, an Arrowhead Intermediaries company, is seeking an Underwriting Assistant (Graduate Programme) to join our growing team in Miami, FL.

The Underwriting Graduate Programme is a 24-month rotational development opportunity based in Miami, designed to build foundational and advanced underwriting expertise within a leading specialty insurance and reinsurance environment. Participants gain hands-on experience across multiple underwriting divisions, developing skills in risk assessment, coverage evaluation, pricing, and portfolio management while contributing to real business activity. Through structured training, mentorship, and exposure to global markets, the programme prepares individuals to transition into a full-time underwriting role aligned with their strengths, performance, and business needs.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Support underwriting teams through the end-to-end process for new and renewal business, from initial entry through binding.

  • Enter and maintain accurate risk and policy data in underwriting systems, including setup of electronic files and documentation.

  • Prepare and process underwriting documentation such as slips, endorsements, and policy records, ensuring alignment with internal guidelines and compliance requirements.

  • Perform pre-underwriting activities, including gathering and organizing submission data, reviewing exposure information, and supporting pricing inputs.

  • Assist with pricing and modeling processes by preparing data for underwriting tools and collaborating with actuarial and/or modeling teams whenever required.

  • Generate regular reports related to renewals, exposures, and portfolio activity to support underwriting decisions.

  • Collaborate with underwriters on ad hoc requests, client deliverables, and broker communications.

  • Respond to inquiries from brokers and business partners, providing timely and accurate information.

  • Support quality control efforts by reviewing documentation and ensuring accuracy of third-party processed materials.

  • Build foundational knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and portfolio management through rotational assignments across business lines.

Skills & Experience to be Successful:

  • Strong academic performance, demonstrated by a competitive ‘A’ GPA.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound, informed decisions.

  • Ability to evaluate information critically and solve problems in a structured, logical way.

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple, understandable insights.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data entry and documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, with the ability to organize and analyze data.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and build effective working relationships.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn, develop, and apply new concepts in underwriting and risk assessment.

  • Professional fluency in Spanish required; Portuguese proficiency is a plus.
