Veteran Peer Specialist

What You'll Do

As Veteran Peer Specialist, you will serve as the primary outreach, engagement, and peer support professional for Veterans Forward – Central Texas. Utilizing lived military experience and peer-to-peer engagement strategies, you will conduct community outreach, recruit eligible veterans, provide workforce navigation support, and connect participants to employment, training, supportive services, and community resources.

You will play a critical role in achieving contract performance outcomes by helping veterans overcome barriers to employment, remain engaged in services, and successfully transition into meaningful employment and career pathways.



Your responsibilities will include:

  • Veteran Outreach and Recruitment
    • Conduct community-based outreach activities to identify and recruit eligible veterans and military family members.
    • Develop relationships with veteran-serving organizations, workforce centers, colleges, community agencies, faith-based organizations, and employers.
    • Participate in outreach events, job fairs, stand downs, resource fairs, workshops, and community engagement activities.
    • Conduct field outreach throughout assigned service areas, including rural and underserved communities.
    • Utilize social media, phone, email, text messaging, and in-person outreach strategies to engage prospective participants.
    • Represent Veterans Forward – Texas professionally in all community and stakeholder interactions.
  • Participant Engagement and Peer Support
    • Establish trusting peer-to-peer relationships with veterans through shared military culture and experiences.
    • Provide motivational support, encouragement, and mentorship throughout program participation.
    • Assist participants in identifying employment goals, strengths, interests, and barriers to employment.
    • Support participants in developing individualized employment and career plans.
    • Maintain regular contact with participants to encourage continued engagement in services.
    • Conduct follow-up outreach to participants who miss appointments or disengage from services.
  • Workforce Navigation and Resource Coordination
    • Connect participants to workforce development services, training opportunities, apprenticeships, and employment resources.
    • Assist veterans in accessing supportive services including housing, transportation, healthcare, behavioral health, financial assistance, and benefits navigation.
    • Coordinate referrals with Texas Workforce Solutions offices and community partners.
    • Facilitate warm handoffs to partner agencies and supportive service providers.
    • Assist participants in understanding eligibility requirements and completing enrollment documentation.
    • Support veterans in accessing VA and non-VA benefits and resources
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Accurately document outreach activities, participant interactions, referrals, services, and outcomes within required case management systems.
    • Maintain timely and complete participant records consistent with TWC and organizational requirements.
    • Collect and verify documentation necessary for enrollment, service delivery, performance tracking, and outcome reporting.
  • Assisting management with contract reporting requirements, outreach metrics, participant outcomes, and performance measures.

You’re a great fit for this role if you are/have:

  • Veteran of the United States Armed Forces preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in workforce development, social services, veteran services, peer support, community outreach, or related fields.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance.

  • Compensation: $20 - $22 Per hour
