As the Vice President of Finance at Mullins Mechanical in Carrollton, GA, you will serve as the senior financial leader for a fast-growing MEP construction business executing complex, large-scale projects nationwide. This role sits at the intersection of finance and operations, translating field performance into actionable financial insight that drives profitability and sustainable growth.
Partnering closely with the President and operations leadership, you will focus on improving forecasting accuracy, strengthening margin discipline, and building scalable financial processes to support continued expansion. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep expertise in MEP construction finance and project-driven environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the senior financial leader for a large, multi-state MEP construction operation with significant project volume
- Partner with executive and field leadership to align operational performance with financial goals
- Lead enterprise planning processes, including annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-range modeling
- Oversee project-level financial performance, including cost tracking, earned revenue calculations, margin forecasting, and backlog analysis
- Develop and enhance cash forecasting processes tied to contract billing structures and project milestones
- Provide forward-looking analysis on contract risk, margin performance, and financial exposure across complex MEP projects
- Implement scalable financial controls and processes to support rapid organizational growth
- Build dashboards and reporting tools that increase visibility and accountability across the business
- Evaluate and strengthen the structure of the finance function as the company continues to scale
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team aligned to operational needs
- Partner with Kelso corporate finance while maintaining strong ownership of Mullins’ financial performance
- Serve as the primary liaison between Mullins leadership and the Kelso Finance team
Required Experience & Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 10–15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience
- Direct experience in MEP construction, or closely related project-based environments such as commercial construction, industrial construction, or EPC
- Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale, long-term projects (ideally $50M+ in value)
- Deep expertise in MEP project financial management, including WIP, revenue recognition, cost-to-complete forecasting, backlog management, and cash flow planning
- Experience operating in high-growth environments; private equity experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and influence decision-making
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to engage both field teams and corporate stakeholders
- Willingness to travel to jobsites and offices as needed to stay closely connected to project performance
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred
- Experience working with construction/MEP ERP systems (NetSuite, Workday, or similar)
- MBA or advanced degree
- Experience helping scale finance functions within a growing MEP construction organization
