Job Summary
The Vice President of Strategic Initiatives plays a critical role in helping develop and execute the Legal & Insurance (L&I) business unit’s medium/long-term strategic vision and major initiatives. This executive is responsible for assessing market and competitive dynamics, analyzing business opportunities, developing business cases and executing major strategic initiatives partnering with matrixed stakeholders across L&I and Datavant. The Vice President of Strategic Initiatives reports to the President & GM, Legal & Insurance and is a key coordination point for his teams but is also responsible for ensuring close collaboration with the Chief Commercial Officer (sales/marketing), Chief Client Experience Officer, Operations, Product Development and other matrixed functions across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Initiatives & Execution Leadership
- Partner with L&I LT to define, prioritize, and drive execution of strategic initiatives
- Market and competitive analyses, business case development, investment justification and execution in close partnership with Product, Finance and other stakeholders
- Establish clear plans, milestones, and success metrics to ensure accountable delivery
- Identify risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks early; provide proactive mitigation plans and transparent status reporting across functional stakeholders
- Support strategic planning, investment prioritization, and performance tracking through structured analysis and insights
Cross-Functional Execution
- Partner with Commercial, Operations, Product, Finance and HR leaders to move strategic initiatives forward and ensure alignment with broader company objectives
- Drive or help manage critical cross-functional workstreams tied to top L&I priorities
New Product and/or M&A Integration
- Lead efforts to establish and effectively launch / coordinate new products and revenue streams across the L&I vertical representing the commercial and operations teams
- Support the integration of any M&A deals that impact L&I across the full lifecycle of the transaction from initial diligence through deal execution and post close integration
- Coordination across workstreams to ensure focus and accountability
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with the full L&I leadership team and all matrixed stakeholders to ensure alignment across all teams
Required Skills and Qualifications
Deep experience working in tech-enabled services businesses working closely with operational, commercial and technical teams and support functions (HR, Legal, Finance).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
Analytical mindset with experience in using data to drive decision-making, assist in prioritization by outlining options, pro/cons and recommendations to arrive at decisions.
Ability to operate with ambiguity, identify problems or areas of need and proactively develop solutions and recommendations with minimal input / guidance.
A history of building deep executive-level relationships across varied functions.
Qualifications
15+ years in operations, strategy, product, or related leadership roles, preferably in healthcare tech-enabled services or health-tech organizations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related (MBA is a plus).
Proven track record of operating in a high growth environment and helping position teams and organizations for scale including the launch of new products/services.
Strong analytical and process optimization mindset, including demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders without direct functional ownership
Leadership and team management experience strongly preferred.
Experience using Salesforce, Asana, Visio/Lucidchart and other commercial and operations related tools.
