VIP & Client Engagement Intern

Job Description:

POLITICO is looking for a VIP & Client Engagement Intern to join our Brussels team starting in September 2026 for a 4-month internship.

As a VIP & Client Engagement Intern, you will support initiatives that strengthen POLITICO's relationships with key clients, policymakers, industry leaders, and other influential stakeholders across Europe. Working closely with colleagues across Sales, Editorial, Events, Marketing, and Business Development, you'll help coordinate VIP engagement across exclusive experiences — including invite-only dinners, high-level bilateral meetings, executive visits, and flagship events such as POLITICO's annual Gala Dinner. You'll also support the preparation of POLITICO's senior executives for meetings and engagements across Europe, gaining a behind-the-scenes perspective on how strategic relationship-building helps shape our journalism, brand, and commercial success.

This internship offers hands-on experience in VIP engagement, stakeholder management, executive communications, and cross-functional collaboration. It is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of media, politics, and business while contributing to the relationships that connect POLITICO with Europe's most influential leaders.

What you'll do

  • Support the maintenance of a centralized database of VIP contacts and key client relationships across POLITICO.

  • Assist with updating and organizing stakeholder information in collaboration with teams across Editorial, Sales, Events, Marketing, and Business Development.

  • Research policymakers, executives, organizations, and industry leaders to identify new engagement opportunities.

  • Prepare briefing materials, background research, and stakeholder profiles for executive meetings and client engagements.

  • Track executive outreach activities, client engagement initiatives, and follow-up actions.

  • Maintain accurate records of VIP interactions, outreach requests, and engagement activities.

  • Coordinate scheduling logistics and communications with executive offices under the guidance of the VIP & Client Engagement team.

  • Monitor organizational and leadership changes to ensure contact information remains accurate and up to date.

  • Support reporting by compiling engagement data and assisting with activity and revenue tracking for key accounts.

  • Provide administrative and project support for executive engagement initiatives, meetings, and special projects.

What you'll need

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field. A university agreement for an internship that is part of a mandatory academic programme.

  • A strong interest in politics, public affairs, media, communications, and stakeholder engagement across the EU, the UK, and the US.

  • Excellent research, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • A proactive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment.

  • Native or near-native proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Additional European languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, or others) are an advantage.

Important information

  • This is an unpaid internship as part of a mandatory university programme.

  • A tripartite internship agreement with your university is required.

  • The internship will be based in our Brussels office and runs for four months starting in September 2026.

  • You will be assigned a dedicated mentor throughout the internship.

What we offer

  • Hands-on experience supporting executive engagement and client relationship initiatives at one of Europe's leading political and policy news organizations.

  • Exposure to senior policymakers, business leaders, and influential stakeholders across Europe.

  • The opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams including Editorial, Sales, Events, Marketing, and Business Development.

  • Mentorship, professional development, and practical experience in stakeholder engagement, CRM, executive communications, and strategic relationship management.

  • A dynamic, international, and collaborative working environment in the heart of Brussels.

About Us

POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.

Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes.

Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals—Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York—form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist.

Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself.

These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization.

POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy.
