Job Description

The Department of Sociology and Communication seeks applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure-track one-year appointment in Communication beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be able to teach classes in media writing, news editing, mass communication, and/or specialty areas, contribute to service within the department, and maintain an active research agenda.

The Communication program has a mix of professional and research faculty. The program has 140 majors and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with tracks in Mass Communication and Media. The program also houses three award-winning student media outlets: The Mesquite (Online Newspaper), El Espejo (Student Magazine), and Enlace (Digital Media Lab).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach the equivalent of 18 course credits per academic year (3/3 teaching load) in media writing, news editing, mass communication, and/or specialty area.

  • Maintain a research program at A&M-SA that results in tangible products (articles, books, grants, etc.).

  • As part of an involved Communication Program team, provide service at the program, department, college, university, community, and/or profession levels.

Required Education and Experience:

  • PhD required in Communication or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by the time of appointment.

  • University teaching experience in Communication or closely related course(s) commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.

  • Availability to teach in-person classes.
