About the Role

The Plumbing Vocational Electives Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering hands-on plumbing instruction and job-readiness training to members participating in our vocational program. This role blends skilled trade expertise with mentorship, coaching, and peer support to help individuals build practical plumbing skills, workplace readiness, and confidence for successful re-entry into the workforce.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has real-world plumbing experience and a passion for teaching others
  • Is a vocational electives or plumbing “unicorn” and also has behavioral health experience
  • Is energized by helping individuals overcome barriers and re-enter the workforce
  • Can balance structure, accountability, and empathy in a fast-paced environment
  • Wants to make a meaningful, lasting impact on people’s lives

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Develop and facilitate hands-on plumbing curriculum and training sessions, including foundational skills, safety, tools, and basic systems (residential/commercial)
  • Teach members how to perform entry-level plumbing tasks such as pipe installation, repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Provide group instruction and one-on-one coaching to support skill development and confidence-building
  • Support members in understanding career pathways in plumbing, including apprenticeships, certifications, and employment opportunities
  • Assist members with job readiness, including resume building, applications, and interview preparation specific to the trade
  • Collaborate with Vocational leadership to design and improve trade-based programming
  • Partner with local employers, contractors, and trade organizations to create employment pipelines
  • Provide peer support and mentorship, modeling workplace professionalism, accountability, and problem-solving
  • Monitor member progress, track engagement, and complete administrative tasks (attendance, reporting, scheduling)
  • Maintain a safe learning environment and reinforce proper use of tools, equipment, and safety standards

  • High levels of member engagement, attendance, and program completion
  • Members transition into employment, apprenticeships, or continued trade education
  • Strong relationships built with local employers and industry partners
  • Consistent delivery of structured, high-quality, and impactful training sessions
  • Positive contribution to member recovery, confidence, and long-term stability

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on experience in plumbing (residential, commercial, or both); license or certification preferred but not required
  • Passion for teaching, coaching, or mentoring others—especially individuals in recovery or re-entry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse populations
  • Ability to lead group instruction while adapting to varying skill levels
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, documentation, reporting systems)
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Peer Support Specialist certification is required
  • Minimum one (1) year Peer Support Specialist experience
  • Behavioral Health Paraprofessional designation required (0-2 years behavioral health work experience without higher education, such as Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in relevant course of study)
  • Behavioral Health Technician designation preferred (2+ years behavioral health work experience and/or higher education)
  • CPR/First Aid and crisis de-escalation certifications required (training provided by company once hired)
