Woodshop Machine Operator (St Thomas, ON – Onsite)

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

A Woodshop Machine Operator is responsible for preparing and assembling wood bases for use on the glassing line. The Woodshop Machine Operator is accountable for ensuring wood bases are prepared according to specifications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Adhere to instructions received by Production Supervisor and Production Planning regarding the production schedule
  • Communicate with previous shift Woodshop Operators to ensure continuity of tasks, process and schedule
  • Complete work orders, sign and communicate to Lead Hand or Production Supervisor
  • Use automated panel saw and other cutting machines to cut wood panels to desired specifications
  • Assemble wood bases using required hand tools
  • Delivery bases to necessary assembly lines in a timely fashion
  • Complete tasks for production schedule sign-off
  • Work two-week rotating shift
  • Other duties as required

HEALTH & SAFETY:

  • Maintain a safe workplace
  • Wear Personal Protective equipment as required on the shop floor
  • Comply with the company policies, procedures, and OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act)
  • Participation is required in our internal responsibility system (right to know, right to refuse, right to participate)
  • Follow safe work and lockout / tagout procedures as required
  • Report unsafe conditions or hazards as soon as possible to your supervisor
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Adhere to and maintain WHMIS 2015 requirements
  • Annual medical surveillance may be required

QUALITY:

  • Follow all area work instructions and procedures in order to ensure quality standards are adhered to
  • Report any potentially defective or damaged products or packaging to the quality dept, Lead Hand and your Supervisor
  • Follow the control of non-conforming product procedure for any defective products found in your area.

5S:

  • Ensure your work area is maintained at required daily 5S standards
  • Correct any deviations from 5S standards immediately

QUALIFICATION:

  • Ability to follow work instructions
  • Ability to pull (up to 50 lbs), push, bend and lift (up to 25 lbs)
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of handheld tools
  • Ability to grasp components
  • Ability to stand up to 10 hours
  • Ability to comprehend the English language
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • O.S.S.D or equivalent
  • Successful completion of all tests related to the position
