This role has been developed to manage a number of key talent pipelines within SP Energy Networks (SPEN). The primary objective is to manage and safeguard the Trainee’s for the duration of their training programmes, which include Apprentice Programmes (Graduate, Craft & Engineering), Adult Craft Trainees, Graduates, Year In Industry Students, Power Academy Scholars, Iberdrola Foundation Scholars, Summer Placements Programme and any other programmes as they are developed and rolled out through SPEN Business.

Leading on development of new training programmes in conjunction with Programme Leader and HR teams to meet the needs of the business in the journey to Net Zero.

The role is required to carry out 12 weekly reviews for all trainees to ensure they are developing as planned and to meet the requirements of the funding body in UK Government.

Applications are therefore invited from individuals with high volume management experience and who have a passion in the development of others in a fast-paced environment. This role would be suitable for a highly motivated and driven individual who can deliver multiple goals whilst demonstrating a high degree of flexibility and sound decision making.

What you’ll be doing

As a Workforce Development Lead, you will:

  • Safeguarding of trainees throughout duration of the training programmes

  • Coach, mentor and manage circa50 trainees across various training programmes and disciplines

  • Drive Health & Safety compliance in the trainee population

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the trainees and the business managers

  • Proactively manage current Development Programmes in place within the Business and ensure delivery in conjunction with Business requirements

  • Proactively monitor trainee performance and ensure additional support is implemented at the earliest opportunity to ensure timely successful completion of programme requirements

  • Review and communicate training plans to trainees and business stakeholders and ensure attendance to/completion of all mandatory courses

  • Stakeholder management with key business contacts such as, but not limited to Health & Safety, Business department managers, district management teams, HR and external educational providers

  • Support Learning in evaluating training providers to ensure they are effective in the delivery of educational requirements

  • Ensure 12 weekly reviews are carried out and meaningful conversations take place in all of these. Accurate records of development conversations

What you’ll bring

  • People management experience (experience of managing large teams preferable)

  • Awareness/Knowledge of working methods relevant to SP Energy Networks (or similar)

  • Knowledge of compliance with company safety rules

  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation

  • Working knowledge of HR policies and procedures

  • Previous knowledge and/or experience of safeguarding would be beneficial

  • High degree of self-motivation & Enthusiasm

  • Capable of communication with varying levels in financial, technical and business terms

  • Demonstrate a passion and experience in developing, coaching and mentoring others

  • The ability to think creatively and drive continuous improvement

As a minimum, you must demonstrate:

  • Experience in management of large teams (energy sector preferred)

  • Working knowledge of company code of conduct, disciplinary procedures and other HR policies

  • Previous knowledge and/or experience of safeguarding (proven experience would be beneficial)

  • Working knowledge of compliance with company Health & Safety rules and requirements

  • Excellent communicator at varying levels

  • Demonstrate a passion and experience in developing, coaching and mentoring others
