REPORTS TO: Senior Library Manager

SALARY GRADE: (115) $52,145.60 annually

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Branch Manager, the Youth Services Supervisor is responsible for reference and reader’s advisory for the youth area, story hours, children’s and teen programs, and customer service to youth and their caregivers. This position promotes library services within local schools and works on projects as assigned to promote interactive, creative educational experiences and performs related duties. Supervises youth services staff as applicable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs excellent internal and external customer service and library service in response to the information needs of library users and the overall community with an emphasis on youth (ages birth to 18).

  • Promotes library collections and services to the public, both inside and outside the physical building.

  • Plans, designs, promotes, presents, and evaluates library programs for youth, parents and adults who work with children.

  • Assists customers with the use of print and electronic resources.

  • Recommends and refers patrons and parents to alternative sources of information (internal and external).

  • Creates and arranges displays of books and other library materials to enhance the library experience and to promote the use of library resources. Assists in maintaining a pleasant, inviting, and safe environment for youth.

  • Works independently to analyze and evaluate current services, programs, and practices; revises and develops programs as needed to respond to patron needs and service delivery.

  • Performs reader’s advisory service for youth and families. Assists in use of the library and its resources. Assists youth, parents and other adults in selection of appropriate material.

  • In coordination with Outreach, may provide outreach to youth by visiting local childcare facilities, schools, and other facilities to promote library services or programs.

  • With guidance from the Director of Central Library Services or Community Library Manager, provides response(s) to requests and conflict resolution upon receiving complaints and/or special requests from patrons.

  • Assists with applying for and utilizing grant money for youth services, as approved.

  • Plans and/or prepares displays, bibliographies, pathfinders, and other informational materials.

  • Participates in staff development and training.

  • Oversees youth services staff.

  • Acts as person in charge in the absence of the manager.

  • Analyzes library collection and assists in its development, maintenance, and preservation.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
