About the Job:
Help young athletes build confidence, learn new skills, and have fun through introductory sports programs at the Champaign Park District. The Youth Sports Instructor leads and supports instructional programs for children ages 3 to 14 in sports such as t-ball, softball, basketball, football, soccer, and other youth activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, creating a positive learning environment, and helping participants develop basic sports skills in a safe and encouraging setting.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Teach participants the fundamentals of assigned youth sports programs.
- Follow prepared lesson plans and assist with updates as directed.
- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Adjust instruction and activities to meet the needs and abilities of individual children.
- Take accurate attendance for assigned programs.
- Inspect equipment and supplies before and during use and report any concerns.
- Ensure proper care, use, and return of Park District equipment.
- Respond to participant, parent, or spectator concerns in a professional manner.
- Complete accident, incident, and other required reports promptly and accurately.
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Represent the Park District in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.
- Follow all safety, confidentiality, equal opportunity, and harassment prevention policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Who This Position Is Ideal For:
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, has an interest in sports, and wants to help young participants learn in a positive and encouraging environment. A successful Youth Sports Instructor is dependable, patient, energetic, and able to communicate well with children, parents, coworkers, and the public. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, have knowledge of at least one sport and its rules, and be able to participate in physical activities such as running, jumping, stretching, and demonstrating basic sports skills.
