Youth Worker (School-Based)

Core Objective

To support and engage Middle/Upper Primary students with additional needs from disadvantaged backgrounds. The role focuses on strengthening school attendance, developing socio-emotional competencies, reinforcing learning routines, and fostering positive home-school collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Mentoring & Support: Connect regularly with identified students over a 6-month period to build positive relationships and contribute to their holistic development.

  • In-Class Assistance: Provide academic and socio-emotional support during curriculum hours if students struggle to integrate back to class or catch up due to absences.

  • Intervention Programming: Plan and conduct customized after-school intervention programs on Tuesdays, including academic support, mentoring, and engagement initiatives.

  • Competency Development: Actively build students' social-emotional skills (self-awareness, emotional regulation) and executive functioning skills (organization, goal-setting, perseverance).

  • Case Documentation & Reporting: Observe, identify, and document students' key needs. Report cases directly to Year Heads, Assistant Year Heads, and School Leaders for further intervention.

  • Home-School Collaboration: Conduct house visits and ferry identified students to school if they are absent for more than 3 consecutive days without valid reasons.

  • Program Review: Provide ongoing feedback on student needs and conduct a formal review of the engagement program at the end of each school term.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Professional Registration: Must be a Registered Social Worker or Registered Social Work Practitioner with the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW).

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of social work experience. Preference given to candidates who have practiced in a school social work setting; community-based experience working with children and youth will also be considered.

  • Core Competencies: Strong professional conduct, relationship-building skills, and the capability to work collaboratively with school personnel and support teams.

    Contract Period: 29 June to 27 November 2026 (Excludes school holidays)

    Working Hours: * Tuesdays: 8:00am to 5:00pm (includes 1-hour lunch break)

    • Wednesdays: 8:00am to 2:30pm (includes 1-hour lunch break)
