Administrative Officer
This position is located in Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, in the Administration Division.
This position manages the administrative operations of Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and is the principal advisor and management consultant to the Superintendent and the High Plains Group, consisting of Bent's Old Fort NHS, Sand Creek Massacre NHS, and Capulin Volcano NM. The position is the administrative advisor to the park management team and the three parks' administrative support assistants. In dealing with the Superintendent, Division Chiefs, and employees of the group of parks, the Administrative Officer builds within the management team and staff an appreciation of the role of administration in accomplishing the mission of the parks and as a partner in the operational, planning, and partnership programs of the group. Administration and management of human and fiscal resources, programs, and services to accomplish the responsibilities of a medium to large National Park Service unit. Financial management and oversight of park funds and guidance to managers on fiscal responsibility. Contracting and procurement work to include purchasing, contract management and coordination of park expenditures. Managing human resources, including recruitment, supervision, accountability, and providing information on human resource management. Planning and evaluating park policies, programs, and efforts to ensure goals and objectives are met in a responsible and timely manner. Formulate park-wide plans, programs, and procedures related to administrative operations. Collaborate with the management team to formulate annual program plans and budgets. Oversee a variety of administrative services, including payroll, travel, and property management. Establish internal procedures to secure adequate control in terms of deadlines, progress reports, and directives and uses own initiative in developing procedures which will increase the general flow of information and overcome bottlenecks in the administrative process. Area Information: Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site is located in the high plains of southeastern Colorado at an elevation is 4,075 feet above sea level. Summers are hot and dry with many days exceeding 100 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are comfortable. Winter temperatures are mild with averages around 40 degrees. Precipitation averages 11.5 inches per year, including an average of 29 inches of snowfall. Snow typically melts within days. La Junta, Colorado, located 8 miles west of Bent's Old Fort NHS, has a population of 6,800. Cost of living is considered low, with affordable housing for both sale and rent. No park housing is available. The community of La Junta offers amenities such as schools (grades K-12), a college, and the area's largest medical facility. La Junta also has a movie theater, a variety of restaurants, and several shopping options. Recreational opportunities can be found in the nearby Comanche National Grassland and John Martin Reservoir State Park.
U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. *Additional Requirements located under qualifications*
