About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Air Force Marathon (AFM) at Wright-Patt AFB. Serves as the primary point of authority and owner for the planning, execution, and success of the AFM event, ensuring it meets all strategic, financial, and operational goals. Serves as the primary point of authority and owner for the planning, execution, and success of the Air Force Marathon (AFM) event, ensuring it meets all strategic, financial, and operational goals. Reports to the AFM Programs Director on plans, development, and management of the Air Force Marathon as a flagship status program to culminate in an annual running event, exposition and awards ceremony. Exercises daily task-oriented direction and provides event-specific priorities to personnel from functional teams for all aspects related to the Air Force Marathon. Within established guidelines and objectives, develops activities to meet needs of participants while remaining within parameters of funding, facility, equipment and staff support. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of on-going marathon/running activities to ascertain where and how the program can be strengthened and improved. Adheres to monthly, quarterly and annual budget requirements; monitors variances and makes revisions as necessary. Collaborates with Functional Directors to plan and secure necessary personnel and resources for event execution. Ensures all donations and support received from sponsorship and applicants are handled in accordance with applicable guidelines. Leads the coordination efforts and planning associated with all racecourse activities. Directs the marathon Volunteer Program; to plan, recruit, and train approximately 2,000 racecourse volunteers. Ensures proper volunteer training is conducted. Develops and directs coordination of logistical requirements for racecourse set-up and tear down. Coordinates transportation requirements; security assistance; and other support operations to include telephone and radio communications, Audio/Visual, Medical Services, Engineering, Public Affairs, Protocol, Safety, and Legal support is complete, and all necessary functional requirements are prepared and in place for marathon events/activities. Follows all applicable government regulations regarding necessary permits for highway and local road closures. Responsible for planning and executing all facets of logistics associated with the physical courses to include course design, coordination, scheduling and executing the route according to the official USATF certification. Responsible for maintaining a month-to-month event timeline/critical calendar. Works with industry race directors and subject matter experts to create, edit, and re-design course routes as necessary. Primary contact for the Start/Finish line and Festival Area from the initial design to teardown. Responsible for inventory in warehouse, ordering all event-related materials, and placement of ordered materials. Works and supports the Events Manager to ensure Expo, Pasta Dinner, Breakfast of Champions, and Post-Race Party are smoothly executed. Identifies, evaluates, and makes recommendations for required support available. Writes statements or requests of desired proposals. Organizes and leads special logistics teams with members from various installation organizations, local law enforcement agencies and local Dept of Transportation as well as city and county governments. Coordinates with AFM Programs Director on contracts by advising, monitoring, and tracking for the best quality and pricing of supplies, equipment and service contracts in support of the marathon, ensuring efforts are accomplished in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Serve as a marathon publicity/public relations spokesperson. Plans, develops, and ensures implementation of the Air Force marathon marketing plan. Plans work to be accomplished: sets personal priorities on both work and administrative matters. Travel to attend local and state marathons and expos, meetings, conferences, and seminars that pertain to running a marathon. Irregular work hours may be required to represent the Air Force Marathon during marathon, SF 10 Miler, and other related events. Performs other related duties as assigned.
